Tyre ratings are not far out from other vehicles. Remember nearly every vehicle has to decelerate in under 3 seconds from even higher speeds. There are millions of F trucks alone with similar mass that do this safely every day. Sideways acceleration is a combination of sidewall stiffness and wheel diameter and width, so a sporty version would also have a larger wheel diameter etc. It's not that bad if you want to optimise for a few features, but its not possible to have the best of each in one tyre.
I'll ask again, do you think Tesla will release a tire option that doesn't meet the full weight specs? Or are you saying they will offer a "sport" tire and it will also meet the load rating required to satisfy the GVWR of the truck?

I didn't say the Cybertruck has different weight specs than other trucks, but I know I wouldn't be happy with the handling of most tires currently rated high enough to handle the 3500# of payload plus the weight of the Cybertruck in addition to being speed rated to 130 mph. In any case, these will be expensive tires if they are going to satisfy me in terms of traction on various surfaces, load rating, cornering, and reasonable tire life. Yes, I know no tire can be the best at all of these but it needs to handle the load and also handle reasonably well.

That's a tall order.

They don't need the line to make beta / gamma models. Just production intent / validation models.

-Crissa
I disagree. They have already done "production intent" where it was feasible. Now they need to be able to validate that they can actually make them on the line as envisioned. That's what "beta" refers to, a pre-production vehicle that is off the line. This will differ from every other prototype because those didn't require the production line. The beta Cybertruck IS for validation of the line processes.

No there's no reason they should, or ever would, release a tyre version that doesn't have the load specifications. The tyres already exist in millions of units on other trucks, since decades, that do what they need.

Just don't expect there to be one that does everything, like sporty and comfortable, efficient and off'road tread, sticky and hard wearing. These are all opposites in rubber compounds.

Besides it would probably be illegal to sell CT without the right tyres on it.

They don't need the complete line, from gigapress to the end, to make the next series of models. I would take from the earnings call the next trucks will be built in Austin - but that doesn't mean the line will be complete before the first ones roll off it.

Each part of the line will take a different amount of time to install and validate. It's cheaper to insert 3d printed or more expensive tooling for complex parts like the castings while they dial in what the final castings will be.

Then it'll really ramp, and that's months away.

Actually, it needs to do most things acceptably well and I don't know of any existing tires with that kind of load rating that I would be happy with. This is a whole new class of vehicle and people are not going to be happy with the kind of tires that typically come on a truck with this kind of load capacity.

Sorry but you will have to go look at Joe's archives to find when and what exactly. I suspect that the stamping extension has not been submitted to the state yet.

Just because an area is designated as a general assembly area doesn't tell us what will be assembled there. We also haven't seen plans for the drivetrain factory as far as I know, and that is certainly a major part of the factory.
I wonder if that's just equipment or do they still need permitting? I don't know that world.

Joe has been going to GigaAustin super early on a regular basis to video the inside of the die casting area and he has yet to see a 9K installed (not to mention that he 'has' videoed a lot of activity to change the foundations and the bridge cranes). Also, with 3 drone pilots wanting/expecting to see IDRA deliveries, unless they intentionally deliver after dark and somehow get all of the pieces into the die casting area before dawn, they will never deliver w/o one of the drone pilots catching it...and I don't think (especially after the exoskeleton delivery) that Tesla cares what the drone pilots see. So there has been no 9K IDRA gigapress delivered. Like others (most notably @greggertruck) I am checking the shipping schedules every day now, and even though I haven't a clue how best to do it I suspect that if we see a delivery at the Port of Houston it will get announced almost immediately.

The best we can do is to keep our eyes open and offer up any tangible news here if anyone finds it.
Since cyber rodeo 2 more gigapresses have been installed. No one saw them do that.
The difference between 9k ton and 6k ton one seen from the end is not much especially since there is all that scaffolding and catwalks in between.
Do you think they are using 4 gigapress to make 2000 model y per week?

Seems like this debate pops up every time the word beta gets tossed around. Personally, I don’t think a hand built truck would be considered beta by Tesla. They arent testing the output of their machine which is their goal. They know they can hand build trucks.

Especially since they installed 2 more presses since cyber rodeo and no one saw the crates
How could they have done that? Are you implying Musk has some machine that can drill tunnels to sneak equipment in underground? <Holding finger to earpiece > What?… Oh, he does?..<Looks back at camera> Never mind.

Bespoke meaning “custom” right?
Bespoke meaning “assembled by hand”.

EM will have an “all production” hand assembled Cybertruck - as opposed to prototype non-production parts. Obviously no 9k IDRA, so castings had to be made the old fashioned way.

Rudiments of a production line will be part and parcel to the build but by no means could it qualify as SOP. Though VIN# 00000001 it might be, especially if it rates as the GM.

Tesla simply can not afford to have 18 more months of no Cybertruck. We’re pretty far overdue
Agreed.

Back as far as 2021 construction was lagging 6mos off schedule. 2022 looked like it might catch up, only to see equipment, interior and new construction drag this Giga plant into a confusing state of endless building.

This version of Giga timeline differs from Shanghai and Berlin. IDK why but its stretched timelines exceed either of Tesla’s prior Giga plants. That’s acceptable even though EM stipulates accelerated expectations.

The 12-18mo projection is lockstep in line with no IDRA, no NHTSA and no gathering of supply lines evident to SOP yet. I ‘m OK with a CT delay if all ducks are in line. Tesla have MY, Semi and M3’s GigaTX can crank on while Cybertruck gets production in-line.

Cybertruck will be the fastest, quickest SOP ramp in Tesla history. Its scale and efficiency will overwhelm. But no need to stumble out of the blocks with such a production engineered product just for good press sake.

Don’t feel bad, you’re all invited to take a ride in my Cybertruck come August 🤷‍♂️
