The Beta CT dimensions are now perfection

The R1T’s 4-foot-6-inch bed, is plainly mid-sized territory - shorter than a Tacoma’s smallest bed, and at least with a Tacoma you can opt for a 6’ long bed instead.

In all, even with the Rivian’s frunk, an argument could be made that it’s still decidedly mid-sized in cargo aspects because again the Tacoma comes with a longer bed standard or can be fitted with a long bed.

Rivian is a decidedly mid-sized truck in functionality, but a short though otherwise full-size exterior dimensioned truck for no good reason.

Maybe it’s hard, afterall, to build competitive trucks.

Re: 54 -- [aside: Rivian has pretty cool extended arms so the tailgate extends out several more inches when down. RJ talked to Munro about it in a show-n-tell video and people have showed it for hauling things including motorcycles]

For those who did not follow Matthew Donegan-Ryan his Breaking News summary is:

1. The Gen 3 platform will be built in Mexico first, then they will copy & paste production to other Giga Factories.
2. The first Gen 3 vehicle will roll off the production line in 18-24 months!
3. I asked if the Gen 3 will be painted or stainless steel he smirked and said “paint is expensive”
4. Giga Mexico will be built AT THE SAME TIME AS ANOTHER GIGA!
5. All Giga Factory architecture, design, and construction is done in-house.
6. Shanghai ramped faster than Austin/Berlin because Shanghai copied Fremont’s production and the Austin/Berlin had to figure out the structural pack

It can certainly be read both ways but the way I see it is that when he made that tweet he was thinking about putting the Cybertruck into production with the 2019 "over sized" concept dimensions. A truck that is 84" wide is not unheard of, the F-150 Raptor is 86.6" wide. That is also consistent with the statement that they'll have to make a smaller variant given a truck with those dimensions would be very US centric.



Not that EM isn't prone to some bending of reality but in terms of length it wouldn't necessarily be a false statement since an F-150 crew cab with 6.5ft bed is 243.5in long.

To add to this point, this is what MotorTrend had to say in reference to the 2019 concept:

"A key issue working against the Cybertruck in four-wheel-drive situations is its size and weight. We've been told designers worked hard to keep the overall length close to a crew cab long-bed half-ton pickup, which translates to a wheelbase of just under 150 inches. That's pretty long—this is a big truck."​

Agreed, I'm also of the idea that the geometry of the Cybertruck will likely result in less interior width than an F-150 despite the same exterior width.



Correct, we do not have any conclusive evidence. As I've half jokingly stated in the past somebody that is planning on going to the Petersen museum should take a tape measure with them.

I followed that guy because his apparent QA with the head of manufacturing was really good. If he's just blowing smoke about CT info, I'm going to give him one hell of an unfollow. Take that random Twitter guy!!

Still waiting on his “unbelievable“ news about the Cybertruck. But he’s kind of insufferable to follow on twitter so just relying on others to repost the interesting bits. I’m not holding my breath for anything amazing.

You realize Cybertruck has 100 cubic feet of exterior storage while an f150 has 67 cubic feet.

Obviously conjecture, but based on that investor day prototype I see no way that CT retains 100 cubic feet.

The exact spec is 100 cubic feet of “lockable exterior storage,” which includes the CT Frunk, but also what was purported to have a 6.5’ bed.

I still have no doubt the CT will have a larger Frunk than a Lightning - but to my eye, that CT has the bed of a ~Tacoma long bed, which is 33 cubic feet. Let’s call the CT’s 40 cubic feet for argument’s sake.

The CT Frunk may be big, but it’s won’t be another 27 m-30 cubic feet.

In any event, not counting the back seat cargo area of an F150 is ignoring one of its best features.

any “guess work and bad napkin math” about that prototype you know is secondary fodder to the real source of conjecture: photos and video of that prototype:

I dunno, maybe I have an overconfident sense of scale and space, or maybe the opposite.

CT features do tend to distort - you can’t even have a feel for the size of the steering wheel.

Going back 30 years, I remember starting most projects with a PSO... Project Scope and Objectives.

I am pretty sure Tesla has defined its scope for the CT and it can't be everything to everyone.

Taking into consideration other plans they must have; I am sure there are no fundamental mistakes.

Here’s one of the early betas swallowing a bunch of 35” tires.

This one only has one 35” tire, but in spite of the angle looking down at the truck, you can barely see the top of it. Pretty clearly the depth of the vault is the same or deeper than in the earlier model.

I have No Clue what the vaults dimensions are in the final. Mostly because I’m not daft enough to think I can do some hand-waving and come to any kind of conclusion that has any real validity other than satisfying my own preconceived notions/ fears/ hopes.

Literally: If you want the truck’s dimensions to be something, you can make a case for it based on the evidence at hand.

If folks have managed to satisfy their own desires via hand waving… nice for you. But don’t expect others to buy into your hand waving as if it’s fact.
