If the truck is significantly over the 2019 price announcement it will be "must have it now" buyers first and then demand will taper off.

I am optimistic that Dual Motor pricing will come in around $60-$65k.
That sounds about right. And by the time Tesla’s $25,000 car comes out (probably 2027) it will be around $30,000. Inflation is real and electric pickup trucks are not going to be under $40,000, unless it’s that mini pickup truck from China.

For the Dual Motor trim I figure a 25% price hike over the initial 2019 $50k price. That would be roughly $63k.
25%? Why stop there? Why not 30% or 35%? Because you have your own threshold beyond which you think the price would be ridiculous. And there are plenty of people, even here, that think the price would be ridiculous above 10%. So who is right? NO ONE!

I cannot imagine anyone wanting to hear pricing guesses right now so you should keep your guesses to yourself and you can parade them about after the configurator is posted if you turn out to be right.

James Locke, being a long-time Tesla owner, should know better. Tesla has never divulged ‘either’ specs nor prices, on any vehicle, before it shows up in their configurator, and then they do not need to because they will be available to everyone.
Everyone that can afford it

Over 40% of orders were for a ~$70k Cybertruck - the tri motor.

-Crissa
No no I was saying if single motor starts at 70k the tri motor would be 110-120 so most people will not buy the truck
I am interested in buying a dual motor cybertruck if it's priced around 50-55k if it's any where above or near mid 60k range I'm not buying the truck. The reason most people ordered tri and dual (which have the most demand ) is because they priced cybertruck almost similar to model 3 and for me the reasoning was why buy a small sedan when you can buy a bulletproof ? truck for a couple thousand. If I can have 20k and a model y instead of a cybertruck I'm fine with that

Is that the total orders, or just the orders where the buyer had the choice to pick one? I know they took all that away at some point, and if it’s 40% of all reservations, then that answers where the demand is, quite clearly. If it is of the reservations that had a choice, then it‘s not as impressive.
Yes most people opted for dual or tri motor versions for reservations

I find myself in the fortunate position where I could pay cash, or make payments for a $125k truck, but wouldn't, if resale value potential doesn't make Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reasonable. My CyberTruck (or other brand if CT's range won't get my travel trailer between chargers) will be hauling me and my RV* around the country for ~2 years, then be sold. I predict that used CTs will have high value for people who made early reservations but still haven't made it to the front of the queue in 2026. If I can get all but about ~$15,000 back when I sell, I don't much care what the window sticker said the day I bought it.

Tesla, bring on a 500** mile CyberTruck that can tow 9k lbs. I'll buy it.

*RV, short-hand for travel trailer, even tho it doesn't have a motor
**500 rated range should provide 150-200 towing in the mountains

I was always surprised that Tesla didn't simply invent a new "Giga Stamp Press" to handle stamping the SS panels. Giga presses didn't exist either until Tesla pushed for them.
If they needed to, they would. First principles ...

40% of the reservations, like she said.

I've given up on trying to suss-out CT pricing tiers. There are simply too many important unknowns and differences from other models in their lineup.

Starting with the motors. Will it use motors from the Semi, which are a variant of the Plaid motors? They made the Semi motors to be torque monsters and torture sponges which, on the surface, would make them ideal for CT applications. Of course, it's not as simple as plug-and-play.

Tesla Cybertruck Musk responds to Cybertruck pricing and specs announcement question (8/23/23) SemiTestin

Will they make the tri motor variant like Plaid vehicles which have suspension and braking upgrades?

Will the trimotor CT have additional batteries or a different chemistry matched for the increased consumption demands?

There's so much we don't know— trying to speculate, or rumor mill the price is a set-up for disappointment due to unmanaged expectations. The CT unveiling is going to be insane. The details on prices, specs, capabilities, the backseat, and hardware that have yet to be revealed are going to be buh-nanas.

Yes, beneficial for potential buyers to know, but that doesn’t benefit Tesla or their shareholders. I’d love to know basic details as well, but if Tesla comes out with, say range estimates, a lot of people will cancel their reservations, and Tesla knows this. Another reason they don’t want leaks.
Well yes, that could be true. You make a good point!

I don't understand what you are saying. You can currently, and always have been able to, get your $100 refund if you desire.
Well... to be clear... In order to get the $100 refund, one must first fund a $100 preorder. I get the sense that some of those saying that they are going to cancel their pre-order may not actually have a pre-order in the first place. Just trying to increase the general FUD quotient.

We have to assume the sample of those who entered their orders into the survey googlesheet is representative.

In other words, we have no way to gauge the error level.

Tesla will not price the single-motor in a way that doesn't beat ICE vehicles.

Just for fun . . Feel free to calculate your monthly payment with current interest rates . . ? between 6.5% and 12%!
An $80k financed loan (to include taxes, fees and options) with an interest rate of 6% = $1,550/mo
The same with an interest rate of 11% = $1,740/mo
It’ll be interesting on how much insurance is going to be.
(But I am sure there will be many individuals in here that would pay anything and everything to be part of the ownership experience. Or, who make crazy money where price is nothing to them.)
