What is this with GigaAustin tours?

I would like to think that buying a Cybertruck and picking it up at the factory would entitle us to a tour without jumping through extra hoops - especially after going through this agonizing wait for so many years. What do you all think?

Well, right now the factory is kind of a mess, so tour space would be more limited.

I would hope they get to a point that it's not as limited and it could be demand constrained.

Definitely agree with you.

My perfect scenario is: Take a one-way flight to Austin, get a tour of the Gigafactory, take delivery of my Cybertruck, and then drive back home to SC hitting up cool points of interests on the way home.

I really hope we don't have to pay or use referral credits at that time to get a factory tour.

They have given tours at every event for the 5,000 they invite so they have enough space to do that ‘when’ they want to (I.e., for an event). But I agree that at other times they are focused on fleshing out the factory and I hope that, by next summer, it will be clean enough for us to get tours as you say.

One of the options available for the Corvette is Option Code RC8, Museum Delivery. With it you receive a full day VIP guided tour of the Bowling Green assembly plant along with other very nice perks, culminating with taking delivery of the car from a special display area at the museum after it had been carefully inspected, detailed and prepared by the museum staff.

This year, this option costs $990 (this is over and above the "Delivery Fee" which cost me over $1,000 to truck my car about a mile to the museum). My 2007 was delivered with that option and it was worth every penny - it was much more than just a tour but the tour was wonderful; I was fortunate enough to have the previous plant manager serve as my tour guide!

Tesla could make some extra $$ and build even more enthusiasm by doing something similar.

If they think the Cybertruck isn't right for this type of thing, maybe they'll do it with the Roadster if it makes a comeback.

Agree. Tesla should do this when they are ready. I recall Elon saying that Giga Austin would be a destination. Parks on the factory grounds, tours, factory pickup, etc. Does anyone recall this?

When you order a Corvette you can select Corvette Museum Delivery for approximately $1,000. At a scheduled time, you go to the factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky which has the National Corvette Museum across the street. You tour the factory, see your car as it is coming down the final part of the assembly line, and then take delivery of it across the street at the factory. Definitely worth it!
