The chameleon effect with lighting at night on the polish finish looks so cool but will I have to clean is twice a day? That tailgate has tons of room for some huge bumper stickers.

The new builds seem to be better, especially on the doors and frunk.

I think this could be Franz's build from the Peterson Museum cars and coffee. The back passenger edge of the taillight cap doesn't look snapped down. The matte black looks like that back edge was adjusted but the whole thing is low like Franz's from Petterson.

Maybe he just didn't put the ramp back in right? ?‍♂ :ROFLMAO:

Tesla Cybertruck Matte Black Cybertruck Finally Appears!! 😱 Driven by Franz Von Holzhausen 1699187669297

Somebody made these images in 2019 that have been in my favorite album ever since.

This last one I came across in April 2020!

I imagine there hasn’t been a product more anticipated in all of history than the CT. I’m right around 100k in line!

Fail to understand the juvenile fascination of a vehicle driven on public roads where it is imperative that you are seen and not blending into the background/shadows and especially at night the diminished visual recognition factor. Military vehicles use camo paint schemes for a reason. Do you really gain something out of being hidden from view? Fine if you are out playing paintball in the woods with the rest of the kidos on the block but not out in the real world were lives are at stake.
All this just for "added attention please look at me over here". Like insecure teenage girls showing as much skin for that added attention factor.
Why do you say that?

The emissivity of the black will be less than the SS, simply because if it "looks" darker it must also absorb more light.

If it absorbs light, it absorbs energy, which in turn means that the HVAC has to compensate for it, and that uses energy which you loose fro range.

The same applies in the winter where it will be colder than the SS because black is a better radiator.

For road safety it's also probably one of the worst colours, especially at night, or parked on the side of the road.

But if you really don't want to be seen I'd get it wrapped I'd take the dark camo.
At least the energy budget will be slightly better, and you won't see all the dirt straight away.
Getting hot over time to the touch is not the same as the amount of heat energy transferred into the body that the HVAC has to get rid of. Over time the vehicle will become heat soaked, in that a black surface will eventually heat up the internal structure of the vehicle as well. The rate of this heat increase will be proportional to the emissivity of the outside.

Black body matt is on the of the worst at 1.00 and SS is nearly half that when matt and ranges between 0.54-.63. When polished it an be as low as 0.075.

That is a big range, but black matt is by far the worst, at least 2x as bad, and as such will add twice as much heating load from sunlight from the panels of the vehicle. For cooling it is much the same, so it's only in mild climates and moderate sunlight where the effects are diminished, otherwise it is a loss.
JB,

Some of us live in an area where heat loading doesn't really exist. And in the winter, it is far from truly cold. When your nighttime lows rarely dip below 10C/50F And less than 10 days a year over 27F/80F, am I really that worried about it?

Not everywhere is like bloody Oodnadatta!

And for Red and JB,

If we were going to play the "Safety Color" card, they both lose! White is the "safest", while the bottom 3 are Black, Grey, and Silver! But we are only talking 10-12% difference. We could all get a hunters' international orange wrap? Are you TRULY that concerned with safety? If so, I would expect the orange or white wrap on your CT.

And Red,

This has NOTHING to do with "look at me". (I can't believe anyone who is buying this vehicle can throw the "you're only doing this for attention" flag) I gave up caring what other people think about my choices years ago (along with young women that like to show a lot of skin in public). I'm going to drive whatever makes me happy, and the rest of the world can think whatever they want. Not a single F given here. Just accept that some of the owners will do a camo or a matte black, or a white, or Jack Links Sausage, or Bass Pro, or one to look like an F150, or even a pepto bismol pink because it makes them happy. And that is ok.

yeah, the stainless itself - especially once it becomes matte and mottled after some use, isn’t exactly a any improvement from any solid matte black wrap, etc.

HOWEVER, the camo wraps are another story

camo brakes up the profile (that’s it’s purpose), reducing the brain’s glancing recognition as eg ‘car shaped’ or ‘car sized’

at dusk or dawn, I’d expect even the stainless or matte black wraps will provide better visibility than the camo wraps - even the snow conditions version

I've known since my minute 1 reservation that this thing would looked better blacked out. Early renders added credence to my thought, but seeing video of it clinches it for me. I like how there is enough of a reflective hotspot to prove that it's still metal, not matte plastic or something, but not enough of a reflection to blind other drivers.

Wonder what the OEM cost for this option is going to be (if offered) vs DIY wrap.... Decisions, decisions

$8,000 is the pricing for Tesla’s factory wraps Model 3 And Model Y

let your imagination run wild what they’ll charge for a full sized truck. Likely $11-15K, I’d guess.

they’re using PPF, not vinyl, and Tesla (or any OEM) options aren’t exactly known for being low cost

some folks here have claimed Tesla will offer DIY pre-cut wraps, but I think they’re confusing their wishes with reality (and I personally doubt that Tesla will offer this, or that many people can or will DIY a PPF wrap to satisfactory results)

I only own new white cars. And a couple of light blue second hand ones for the bush and farm. :p
We have 20'C/68C pretty much all year long. No frost or ice and about 2 weeks a year over 30'C.

But don't you travel beyond your backyard with your vehicle?

And even if you have mild and moderate climate, the amount of energy absorbed from the sun in those locations is not diminished. Solar insolation is not ambient temperature dependent, but it is weather and altitude dependent. The question is can you cool or heat the temperature difference to a comfortable level without using that much energy in the heat pump, that in turn reduces your EV range. If your car colour is more important to you, then sure fine, but otherwise, it should at least be on your consideration list. Some people just don't realize this, especially if you come from ICE that doesn't really have a range impact, so I highlight it.

I'm just thinking ahead to when the PPF inevitably gets damaged doing what I do with vehicles on my land, out in BLM forests, etc. I have no illusions of skill in the applying PPF department, yet. But I've taught myself (with help from YouTube U) plenty of other things. Good news is if I screw up the first few panels I can redo them for just the cost of materials and my time. I know the film isn't cheap but I might start with some cheaper variant first.

no doubt there are some folks like yourself who will give it a go and be successful

I’m just doubtful folks like you will be using Tesla DIY PPF kits (because I doubt Tesla would offer that)

The OG material is used to shield heat. The heat will stop at the wrap and will not penetrate the SS.

Thank you thank you thank you…. Well said!!! People have to stop being so anti-everything… just like what you like and move on. Now if you were going to pay for my CT, then we can take the time to sit down and discuss “flashiness “ or your preference in color patterns… but until then… keep to steppin, watch your step, and watch the closing doors…. And remember… have a wonderful day!!! ???
