7k CT +2500 payload puts it squarely in the 9-10k weight class, competitive (bit more) with an F150 ICE or Lightening, > Chevy EV Truck which is lugging around a lot of batteries. and > Rivian Payload...so still bragging rights if they can hit >2200+lbs payload w/ CT....

Granted 1k less that OG announcement, but for me - truck weight between 6-7k lbs is more useful for range, performance, etc than the extra 1k payload (which I dont think I've ever needed in my current 2500 GMC)

Ford Ranger/VW Amorak have 2500lbs payload on a 5000lbs vehicle, so there no real reason a 7000 CT can't have 3500lbs payload.

It's probably going to be in the low to mid 3000lbs, but more than 3000lbs across the range.

The main load carrying capability stems from the ability of the suspension to take load without negatively impacting driving performance, stance and controllability. But full size flatbed/semi trucks commonly have more than 100% payload/curb weight ratios. This is why airbag suspension are used in high payload capacity trucks, because they offer the most flexibility for highly variable payloads by simply changing the airbag pressure.

Structurally, there are also limits, but given the better weight distribution from the longer wheelbase of the CT, that places the bed further forward over the rear axle, the CT simply has better geometry for a higher payload as well. 4WS will also help.

I'd prefer 3k min payload so hope you are right!

I’m personally just not so sure that the things I care about map over that.

If I’m asked:

“what’s more ‘American’ to you: a company that hires 1000 Americans to build 10,000 cars, or a company that hires 10,000 Americans to build 5,000,000 cars, 4,000,000 of which are sold overseas” - I have to think about that

If I’m asked:

“What’s more ‘American’ to you:

  • company A builds 1,000 cars in America it sells to America, and builds 1,000 cars in China it sells to Chinese, or
  • company B builds 5,000,000 cars in America (4,000,000 sold in US, 1,000,000 sold in China), and builds 2,000,000 cars in China (500,000 sold in China, 1.5M sold into America)

If I’m asked:

“What’s more ‘American’ to you:
  • a car built with 80% parts assembled in America, and 20% assembled in China, or
  • a car where we know 80% is assembled in America, but the other 20% we don’t know where it’s assembled (we don’t ask)

A car that is 100% made (including parts and software) in, and sold in, the United States is 100% American. Anything else is something else. By that definition it is unlikely that there are ‘any’ cars that are 100% American, but it sets a baseline for comparison.

A car that is 100% made (including parts and software) in, and sold in, the United States is 100% American. Anything else is something else. By that definition it is unlikely that there are ‘any’ cars that are 100% American, but it sets a baseline for comparison.

Right enough, but you are wandering off from the notion of a car being 100% built and sold in the U.S. In the end our ability to communicate is based on a shared lexicon. You can question ‘every’ word and context but that is a paranoia that most people don’t want to participate in.

While I'd prefer more cargo capacity and I could straight up use it right away. I already overload my Mazda ^-^

I ran vins in the 600s and 800s on NHTSA recall website and found that they go all the way up to 906. All 800-900s are 2024 dual motor H-Rated. I haven't been able to break the 5 series (or 7 series if one existed) yet. Let us know if you break it on of the other series.
