Pretty good overview, I don't think anything new that we haven't seen in MKBHD's, Hagerty's, or Top Gear's. It does make me wish they had added the lense water sprayer to the rear camera like they did for the front facing camera.

I do wish that Tesla had given early access to a person/group that actually knows trucks and does truck things. Nothing against the three above, but you can tell from some of their comments that their daily drivers are not Silverado's, Rams, or F#50's.

What I noticed and was pleased to see toward the end, was the efficiency numbers they got at 419 Wh/mi. Below is a quick comparison of those efficiency numbers to what I've averaged in a 2018 Model 3 Performance over five years. While the vehicles are different sizes/weights, I wanted to compare how the energy in the Cybertruck is used versus the energy in the Model 3, adjusted per units of weight:

It's obvious the Cybertruck carries more weight over the distance per Wh/mi, and the Cybertruck requires less energy to carry a given weight per mile than the Model 3 Performance.

I can only speculate this is possibly because of more efficient motors and energy delivery to those motors from the new 4680 cells and battery pack, as well as possibly less energy required for battery management.

I like these figures because they focus purely on battery and motor efficiency to carry a certain weight a given distance. I think this indicates a significant improvement in the 4680 battery pack and newer drive unit motors. Of course the low drag co-efficient of 0.34 also helps in efficiency.

Note: The 2018 Model 3 Performance figure above reflects over half usage on high speed road trips, so other Model 3 Performance owners may have higher efficiency. It's also unknown what speeds CarWow reviewers drove Cybertruck at mostly, how much acceleration they did overall, or what previous drives might've contributed to the 419 Wh/mi reading. The temperatures in Austin TX were close to ideal for optimum battery efficiency, so we're not seeing cold weather performance. The CarWow reviewer was wearing shorts.

So this is not a standardized test at all, but it does provide a sample result. I think efficiency testing of Cybertruck to other vehicles under the same conditions/miles would give interesting results. Time will tell as CT owners drive more miles, but for now 419 Wh/mi efficiency readings with the Cybertruck weight are still encouraging.

2.4 pretty much ~parity with F150L

And for what it’s worth, that reviewer was miss-stating the range of the truck as tested

the Cyberbeast range, on those wheels/tires, is 301miles (not 320mi)


what I don’t know is how the calc he was looking at in the truck tracks real figures, or is instead a fluffy OEM calc

This is because aerodynamic drag is the primary consumer of energy at highway speeds, and the CT doesn't have a mass that is proportionally larger to the frontal surface area, compared to a M3.

That is to say the mass increases more than the drag, so the mass number looks better by itself. There's little meaningful improvement left in drivetrain, with only 2-3% efficiency gain possible. Check out your mass to efficiency numbers on the Semi to compare. This is why system performance should be measured as a whole including aero.

But even then they are fairly decent real world numbers for the size.

It seem like all the review units tailgates are just a bit or more lower on the left.
