So what do all of you consider the threshold/cutoff for being considered rich in the United States? How many of the 2 million that reserved a Cybertruck were ever in a position to buy one?
Spending $80k+ on a vehicle is a whole new level "rich", for sure. About 20% of US households make over $150,000/year, so that's a fairly broad audience of "only" 30M households or so.

The income distribution of the reservation list is unknown, but clearly some have been priced out for now.

I just got a Model Y last month, I had to put down $1k to order my Model Y, since I could. Or find my exact configuration in stock…
So, tempest in a teapot?

Every EV manufacturer does it. Fisker does it. Rivian does it. Chevy does it with Blazer EV.

There are more people living in the circled part of Orange County (CA) than the entire populations of Montana and Wyoming combined! Forget the whole rest of California (Los Angles, San Francisco, San Diego, etc). This is just one half of a suburban county (mostly single family home subdivisions) that is serviced by two Tesla Service Centers (Irvine and Buena Park). So I get why it's easier for Tesla to do the early rollout in places like this where they can reach their customers easily. For reference the diameter of this circle is about 25 miles

How do I go about paying for this Early Access Deposit? I can't find how or where, could you please elaborate how those of us willing to pay for this can go about it?......I ordered my 3 motor cybertruck during the unveiling. My reservation number is "RN112749075". My friend ordered his 2 motor cybertruck 3 days after the unveiling, his reservation number is RN112800341. Which means he's 51,266 reservations down the line from me. He received notification yesterday (12/12) to configure his "Foundation Series" -Which I understand only 1,000 of them are being made. We both live in San Diego California. I'm super stoked for him that his reservation got pushed up from what should have been end of year next year, to now getting his, probably this month (December 2023). It seems Tesla is not following their own reservation order, which seems unfair to those of us who were further up in line. And of course, there is no phone number or email address you can reach where something like this could be addressed. -very disappointed.
I have gotten 3 separate emails asking me to take the foundation series.....I am at 46.145.....ordered night of reveal also....but no work om=n normal version

I’d recommend that you respond: “No thanks, but my friend Fleetwood75 would love to take you up on your offer, you should email him instead” ?

Bozeman trucks don’t count!! ?
Bozemania you must mean. Is over 6 hours from me. My town has 1200 people. Our community is our family. That little truck you see is a 2500 Suburban with 7 inch lift/winches. I live in that little trailer and tent for about 9 months a year.

We much prefer to have no one come to our beautiful state. Well maybe just those that don't respect and follow the code of the west.
Tesla Cybertruck Reservation holders must now pay nonrefundable $1,000 "Early Access Deposit" to convert reservation into an Order (new as of 12/12/23) PXL_20231012_003420766-EFFECTS

love Montana, and very jealous, of a state with real outdooors and topography. (tX here)

in which case, I’d love to be a fly on the wall for your first morning over at the local Monday morning truck stop coffee table chat with the old-timers

reminds me of a story I’ll share even though no one asked:

a mentor of mine is an 80yo+ Federal Judge back home in Arkansas (another state with real outdoors, btw). Judge was in the Gulf of Tonkin during Viet Nam.

During one Monday morning local coffee shop gathering of old-timers, an increasing bunch of them were wearing their ‘veteran’ hats, had their veteran bumper stickers on their trucks outside etc., but Judge knew they were all like reservists and domestic service posts.

That week he went and had a bumper sticker made, and put it on his bumper:

“Viet Nam Veteran - I was actually there!

the next Monday he pulled up to the starion, and backed his truck in so that the bumper faced the yalta conference table inside. He didn’t say a word, went in, and had his normal visits that morning.

But the next Monday after that, there were no hats, and several bumper stickers had been removed from the other trucks.

This is an interesting development, I wonder if folks have been having second thoughts and cancelling their recent order? Not sure why else they would increase the deposit to secure the order.
I wondered if it was due to people not being able to complete orders from reasons beyond their control like credit/ down payment required, etc…

It's a logical step to allow Tesla to more accurately plan production and procurement/sourcing for the next couple years.
