I heard somewhere that Tesla can fix this issue with a software update. They might have turned it off for safety reasons.

If the Campsite has both 30 amps and 50amps outlet, we can use 30 amps for Trailer and 50 amps to charge CT, correct? It’ll overload the campsite grid for sure. I don’t know whether they even allow that. Most of the campsites I go have both 30amps and 50amps.

Charging the trailer through CT might limit the activities you can do while camping. Your CT is pretty much grounded unless you are ok to move around the cables every time you take out CT. The only time I would power my trailer while charging CT would be in a pull through super charger.
Unfortunately this campsite only had one 240v at each site

I'd do the truck on 240 and the trailer on 110v until the truck was full then switch. Not perfect but most trailers only have 200ah batteries and the CT doesn't need to be at 100%, just enough for local camping duties.

Me, I'd do truck on 240v while solar or generator ran the trailer....or get lucky and the campsite has 50&30amp circuits

Not ideal. At this point, hopefully can get at least a night charge unless the caravan air con is needed 24 hrs.

Is the campground power socket supply 240V 30A or is it 240V 50A?

Do most campgrounds you visit have power socket supply 240V 50A?
in my experience most have 50& 30amp but probably cant run both at the same time (guessing, never tried).

This campground was 240v 50A. I typically get a 50A site since my trailer is 50A. 30A won’t run both A/C’s

A slight variation for 2-output portable box is to have 1-socket output for RV and the 2nd output be an actual hard-wired Tesla Wall charger gen 2/3. This would mean you don't have to constantly use your Tesla mobile charger. The wall charger might be a little more power efficient, save charger config settings, and allow better remote monitoring of charging.

When not in use you might be able to store this 2-output portable box in RV or maybe have a built-in/flip/dropdown covered panel/case under RV.
The wall box isn't set up to have its power level dinked with every time you plug it in, but the mobile is.

So it would definitely be easier to just use the mobile connector.

...And it doesn't take an electrician to wire up a split box, but if you don't know how...

Do the AC units draw 240V or are they 120V?

When AC is on does it actually run 100% of time or does it cycle on/off?

Is AC a traditional compressor type (power draw surges at each compressor start, cycles on/off) or a newer inverter AC (maybe heat pump too) that is constantly runs but at variable speeds?

The Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 or the Universal Wall Connector both should be designed to survive installation at houses/buildings/destinations that lose power frequently so my suggestion for RV at campground should be similar. I think the wall connector are more efficient electrically and can more fully utilize 240V 50A circuit .

Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3

circuit 240V 50A, output 240V 40A 9.6kW

--------------------------------

Tesla Universal Wall Connector - 11.5 kW / 48 amp output (On 50A circuit probably have to to de-rate to 40-45A 9.6kW).

I can wire it myself but I’d like to talk to my electrician to see if he has any insights or suggestions prior to me building something

AC runs off of 240v. The AC in the main living area has a thermostat but the one in the bedroom will run until manually shutoff. They definitely surge at startup.

No and yes. EVSEs aren't really more or less efficient; they're just extension cords/receptacles. But yes, it can more fully utilize a higher amperage circuit.

However, the Wall Connector is designed to have the amperage set when it's installed, while the Mobile Connector is designed to know what it's being plugged into, and if I recall, you can fiddle with how much it's drawing in the car's UI.

One of the options mentioned above is to install a 240 outlet in the RV. Then charge the CT while plugged into the RV vs plugged into the campsite post.
I’d like to see the charge rate / kw if you ever attempt that set up.
Your vid showed 15 miles / 11 hours to full charge. If CT is charging off the RV & and RV is connected to campground post, I wonder if that would drastically reduce the CT charge rate. By half??
Always GREAT and “real life application” videos. Keep ‘Em coming. Thanks!!
