With recent reports of CT issues, 2nd thoughts anyone?

I’ve been as obsessed with the CT as everyone else in this group for the last four years… unhealthily (I placed my reservation the night of the reveal and the only reason it wasn’t within the first minute is because I was in a stupid work meeting! ?).

HOWEVER, is anybody else getting a bit nervous about getting a foundation series with all of the issues that are being reported? These stories of vehicles dying within the first several miles is unnerving. It seems like many new CY owners are afraid to take their brand new $100k truck on a long roadtrip for fear of being stranded (and those concerns seem warranted). As much as I want to wave my Tesla and CT flag, in support of my fandom, and move forward with my purchase (which I’m assuming to have in the next month or so) this is the first time I’m started to give real thought as to whether it might be better to turn my FS configuration/order into a regular order and get it six months to a year later when more bugs have been worked out. And this doesn’t have anything to do with cost as I am planning on paying cash. I’m fine dealing with bugs/beta issues, almost excitedly so, but some of the stuff members on these forums are dealing with go way beyond beta abnormalities…

Anybody else actually giving this some real consideration?

That's basically the boat I'm in right now. Plus, that extra wait for a normal order would mean more time to see what shakes out of the R1T "refresh". Only problem is I already placed my $1,000 deposit on Jan 25th so I'm in the VIN-waiting stage. I might try and reach out to Tesla's customer support to change to a non-FS order.

I’m waiting for my VIN as well (placed my FS order/configuration 89 days ago), but from what I’ve read in other threads, it seems like Tesla allows you to keeps your $1k deposit and change your order from FS to regular. Not sure what I’m going to do yet but am really giving it some serious thought now… Of course, if when I check the app for the 50th time tonight it told me I had a VIN, I’m sure I’d cave like a baby and immediately pay in full through the app, hoping that would get me the vehicle more quickly!

I’m 2-3 years out, so less of a worry, but I would share your sentiment if i was a day 1 order

As an “early adopter” I am fully prepared for oddities, misbehavior, and general weirdness.

If that’s beyond your comfort zone, then skip the Foundation series and wait until most of the kinks are ironed out.

I’m not concerned.

Same happened with the MY rollout in 2020.

If the forums were to be believed: the glass roofs were flying off, all the rear motors on the MYP’s were failing, the heat pumps were defective, the tie rod bolts were missing the castle nuts, etc, etc.

Now, did SOME MYs have those issues? Yes, absolutely. But my two 2020 MY’s have been absolutely trouble-free since delivery. Best cars I’ve ever owned.

I can’t wait for my FS AWD!!

Its balance between wanting a hassle free vehicle and how much time does the hassle cost?

The big issues such as the voltage harness etc seem to take 2 weeks to fix or so at most. The fix is on teslas dime and they give you an x or s loaner it seems.

I have been waiting 75 days with no vin. If someone told me I could have had my truck 2 weeks ago and put it into service until now I would take that.

I understand, I'm on the same boat as you, severely concerned about the truck dying in the middle of the road trip with my three kids. I ordered a beast with a n estimated delivery of mid to late 2024 so the only thing stopping me from canceling Is that I hope in the next 3 to 4 months they'll figure out those issues before I get mine. I understand other posters viewpoint on being early adopters and the risk of running into issues. However, some of the issues reported seem severe (not in terms of how to fix it but how it affects the customer}.

The small percentage of truck problems get amplified on the forum because that’s where you go when you are looking for help/support. There are thousands of CT owners like myself that drive everyday with no problems. As long as you have a backup ride then pull the trigger and enjoy the fun.

Don't let fear stop you from living!

The vast majority of us have had no issues. It's a new model launch. Also, Tesla has suppliers that are just starting production too!

For reference, our family got a very early Model Y (early 2020, 2 piece rear gigacasting, one of the first 10,000 made), and it's been solid for the last 4 years!

If you go to any forum for a product where people are waiting for pre-orders, you have the same thing going on. The issues are overly magnified and it creates the illusion that the product as a whole is defective. The reality, probably 0.005% or less of CTs have had powertrain or control issues thus far.

As long as not primary transportation, worst case is you get towed / out of service for fix...none of us want to go through that but not end of world! Agree with above - forum amplifies bad things and odds are you'll have some things happen but prob not be bricked on the side of the road.

4 years, we're almost there! I haven't given any consideration to delaying my beast! Please be a VIN when I check my phone!
