Foundation Series will end soon. Not a good look that such a low percentage of reservation holders are taking them. Currently sitting at about 1/100
I disagree with your 1/100, my RN was 42,000 in position and my vin number is 5500 so that is a 13% take rate on the FS not at 1% like you guessed.

Well they have gotten to well past 250,000 reservation numbers, and they have shipped well under 5,000 CTs, VIN numbers don = number shipped. It is maybe 2% certainly under 5%

vin does very closely represent shipped because they don’t assign vin numbers until the unit is complete. Maybe my logic is flawed about the take rate but newest latest highest assigned VIN is a very good guesstimate on number of units shipped. They are currently in the 6000 k range about to be 7k.

I would only say I have family and friends with numbers around mine and below who have not received an invite while I have. We were all RN1129 and I’m seeing people report RN113x invites. These are people who wanted an invite and became anxious for theirs when received mine a month ago. No clue why they weren’t invited. Not sure why I was. Maybe they know I’m a sucker—this will be my 4th Tesla (3, Y and a recent X delivery) plus solar roof and power walls 3 years ago. But I would suggest they are possibly cherry picking RN for invites.

Nothing to back it up beyond what I’ve written above.

We are around 240,000 RNs in line that are getting invites.
Round that down to 200,000 sure why not
Optimistically say that there have been 5,000 CTs shipped to customers

5000/250,000 = 2.5% take rate max not exactly flying off the shelves.

It was a higher take rate early on with the TikTokers all buying trucks to smash in videos, now with the price and issues it has slowed way down

Looks like we used the same site. I was told 160k in line and October estimate for delivery. Again, this is assuming they’re not skipping or picking people out while going in order. Looking at your reservation, you didn’t even select the highest trim so that doesn’t seem to play into it.

Unfortunately, Tesla is in desperation mode and will squeeze the last juice in the FS.

I am one of those who got suckered into believing that this is a limited 1,000 units edition.

If Tesla can build it and sell it for $120,000 they will continue. The Models SXY were outrageous when they first released, now they have leveled out. Tesla is setting the market price, Few years ago GM released there WT EV concept at $39,995 “Hey they don’t have to undercut Tesla” and now today you can be the proud owner for $110,000 out the door. All about that money!

I don’t think the amount of reservations is a good way to determine how many trucks will sell. The reservation was cheap. Then the rona came. Also, there are international ones mixed in. And it‘s 1 per customer right now. I bet if they canceled the reservation list and were able to sell to anyone with money to buy they would sell out.

To lose $1k to then save $20k would be fine. Especially since others have successfully moved their $1k deposit from FS to Non-FS when reaching out to Tesla, I don't think there would be a loss.

Even if I'd buy some or all of the FS upgrades, I like the idea of being able to make the choice. The bundle isn't providing a discount on the extras, you're just getting what you pay for (or for AWD getting a little less than you pay for). I just couldn't justify spending $20k more on a vehicle that I know someone else taking simultaneously delivery is paying $20k less. It's one of the main reasons I went with the Beast over AWD, it's not eligible for a $7,500 tax rebate even when FS goes away, so I don't feel like I'm getting fleeced.

AWD you don't get the $4k installation credit + light bar. Buyers of non-FS get a $7,500 tax credit. So even if you value all the other stuff they are putting in the FS as $15k, that still means you're paying $12,500 more than non-FS for the benefit of early delivery. Take away that early delivery benefit, why the hell would someone pay for the FS?
But not everyone (myself included) qualifies for the $7500 tax credit. My guess is that there is a fairly large number of peeps with reservations that fall into this group. You need to take that into consideration as well, man.

$5k seemed like a small price to pay for my dumb “yolo” ass to get and start enjoying the truck a year or so (if people are lucky….) earlier than had I waited. ?

Tesla never said it was 1,000. Some random web site posted that and people took it as fact.

This is why I ordered the beast, I don't qualify either. Doesn't make sense to pay $7,500 more for something that people are paying less for. The Beast won't have a tax credit even at the non-FS price, so there's not an instant $7,500 depreciation.

Just because not everyone qualifies for the non-AWD tax credit, that doesn't mean that doesn't greatly impact the market value, which will seen as $7,500 less than MSRP.

Probably the FSD is going to worth exactly $0 when you want to sell the truck in 2027. I was trying to sell my 2019 Model X and the best offer was $10k below the loan amount. Carmax and Tesla was even $5k lower than that. If you don't want to lose money, you should not get the FS.
It's a car, I'm not expecting not to lose money
