An aluminum roof would be fine. I understand Tesla doesn't want to deal with a headliner, so don't add one or just spray it in Plastidip or bedliner and call it a day.
Because glass has insulative (heat, sound) that metal does not; as well as hardness metal does not. Per square foot, glass ends up cheaper if you don't actually need the collision properties of metal.

Like the JackCypher pointed out; if you replace the panel you'll need to do something about not cooking/freezing/deafening yourself.

How long before the moonroof is available??
Man, I hope you're joking! I felt extremely lucky with my Model S not to ever have any moonroof leaking. I used it probably 10 times in 9 years. On a piece of glass the size of the glass on the CT, image how strong the motor would have be to move it. I *think* Tesla learned their lesson and that's why you don't see moonroofs on the 3, Y, or CT.

This is the weirdest post. I was going to comment on it this morning but I didn’t because I didn’t want to add to the randomness but there’s not a single post besides the picture that’s on topic here I mean literally not one!

No one, including OP, is talking about the change in the roof on the cybertruck or what it is, why it is happening, nothing.

The hell guys? ಠ_ಠ

Including your post. Nothing added except a glass of whine.

@greggertruck any clue? You seem to be on top of hardware line changes.

I've had thoughts of building an aluminum roof with a level top to fit under my rack. Headspace in the back seat is a little low for some of my taller friends. Also, it would better accommodate a turret ring, right?

at least you could weld to it if you used steel. Might make the turret more stable.

I love mine on my Mazda, it's nearly always cracked open. And it has never leaked.

You don't need a large motor, you just need the right size reduction gears.

At any rate, I don't see where they'd put the break to be useful in a Cybertruck... the whole front windscreen tilt up or something?

The topic is, 'oh, hey, it looks different.' Past the two posts wondering if it's to be cheaper for Tesla or just a cosmetic change, we have no information, so of course the topic will wander!

I saw a post about changed roof glass on the Cybertruck.

Any insight as to what is going on?

Hmmm...

Does anyone else think/notice that the OLD roof glass looks like it's actually SMALLER? Or rather, that the windshield on the new one is smaller than the old one? I'm talking about the 'peak' of the side trim looks like it's further forward on the "new" one...
