Just a friendly reminder - this thread was originally about the chick rubbing her Actually Smart Summon against some dudes CT.
I searched for the interviews/podcasts in which these quotes were extrapolated, and alas, I couldn't find them. Let me know if you can; because Jalopnik isn't a resource I would be comfortable using in any conversation where the unfiltered truth is supposed to be given. They have been caught lying about Tesla in the past.
My solution has been don't believe Elon when he's talking about autonomous driving and don't pretend he knows what he's talking about since he clearly doesn't.What's your solution? Enshrine a new law that doesn't allow CEOs to talk about lofty goals?
From Autoweek in 2016:I searched for the interviews/podcasts in which these quotes were extrapolated, and alas, I couldn't find them. Let me know if you can; because Jalopnik isn't a resource I would be comfortable using in any conversation where the unfiltered truth is supposed to be given.
The Wikipedia list includes this specific prediction, which was made in October 2016. It is rated as "Met: No"."I feel pretty good about this goal," Musk said in a press call earlier this fall. "We'll be able to do a demonstration guide of full autonomy all the way from LA to New York. So basically from home in LA to Times Square in New York. And then have the car go and park itself by the end of next year."
? you don't know what I believe.And yet - you're a true believer.
Whenever I come across A.C.M.E. traps in the road set by cartoon characters, I'll just have to accept my fate with camera based FSD.There's a recent video of a Tesla self driving into a Wylie Coyote Wall. If you believe LiDar wouldn't have prevented that - you're just not living in the real world.
Yet, the doors are factually able to stop 9mm parabellum. Are you not aware of this?Even the "bullet proof" claim about Cybertrucks is complete hokum.
The fact is that FSD is already operating wonderfully on cameras alone. You know lidar also can't do? Se in infrared or thermal.Cameras operate on a spectrum of light - low visibility is just that. It's just disingenuous to believe that cameras alone can solve a super complex visual mapping problem.
Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice - don't get fooled again - G.W. Bush.
Tik-tok. Brain-rot.My Drive this morning. In FSD, normal mode. Looks like the guy just pulled up next to me on the right just to flip me off. I don’t understand people.
Until further notice; I'll give the multidisciplinary genius billionaire a shot at keeping on doing what's he's doing. My solution has been don't believe Elon when he's talking about autonomous driving and don't pretend he knows what he's talking about since he clearly doesn't.
From Autoweek in 2016:
"I feel pretty good about this goal,"
Yep. He's failing so hard that people are utterly astonished at the current abilities of FSD. You guys are ripping on the CEO of a company that has helped make something possible that we have only been dreaming of since the invention of the automobile.Wikipedia includes an article documenting the "List of predictions for autonomous Tesla vehicles by Elon Musk". It currently lists 23 specific predictions made since 2013, with quotations, references, and outcomes.
Scorecard to date:
- 2 predictions met (at least partially)
- 19 predictions not met
- 2 (recent) predictions still to be determined
