80/90 daily more or less good/ok for long term battery health.
On a long trip you are going to want that extra 10%, charge to 100% and use the scheduler so it tops off to 100% right before you leave, and doesn't sit at 100% overnight.

I highly recommending maintaining as close to a 50% SoC for your daily needs as possible. That means charge as high as you need to do your daily driving + whatever % you think you may need for running around.

You can get away with charging 80% every day, but I don't recommend going higher.

Definitely don't recommend you charge to 100% unless you absolutely need it. If you want to start a long trip with a high buffer, then schedule your charge to complete 30 mins before you plan to leave, and only charge to 95% tops unless you absolutely need it.

Never charge to 100% unless you are sure you need it. You will degrade your battery faster. Will it *damage* your battery? No. But you will lower the lifespan. Guaranteed.

They Charges fast closer to zero, if you don’t need the extra 60 miles it’s only going to make your trip longer. I do recommend a buffer tho, if nav says you will arrive at charger with 5-10% for your next leg, definitely let it run up so arrive with 15-20 buffer. Then you can speed and not have to worry about being 800 feet short of a charger

Personally, I would recommend charging to whatever level you NEED for your 'average daily use' and then add 10-20% to that...

For me, that's 40% (daily usage - long commute) plus another 20% = 60% 'daily'... I set up my vehicles to 'charge on solar' and then have the 'min' charge set at 50% (gets from 'grid' or my battery system) and then it keeps charging up to 80% but ONLY using Solar power to do so... So, sometimes it will NEVER get to 80%... BUT WHO CARES!! If it's just 'daily' charging anyway, then anything above 50% is good for me... Some folks it might be even LESS...

But no point in charging to 90% (IMHO) unless you plan on using it... Maybe 90% can get you 2 days worth of commutes (it would for me), but if you are charging at home, why bother...

Because of my solar, I also tell my system to 'not allow vehicle charging' from 4pm to 9pm (PEAK hours when price is high) while at the same time having my system 'sell' power to SCE from both the solar AND battery system (although it actually only uses the battery for whatever 'home use').

Since this setup, our electric bill is mostly in the 'negative' except for a month or two in winter when there are rainy days with little sunshine... But it all balances out...

SO, charge up to whatever level you think you will NEED... Again, think DIFFERENTLY than a 'gas' car... Especially if you are charging at home... If you need to use Superchargers instead, then yeah, I would try to get at least 2-3 'days' worth of juice...

Only need to go to 100% if you are ABOUT to leave on a long trip, and again, that would be for HOME charging... For Superchargers, think TIME instead of percentage... If you want to get to your destination faster, 80% is your goal...

The pack degradation increases with a higher SoC (State of Charge). You should charge to the level needed to satisfy your daily needs, and no more. It's also healthier to charge smaller amounts more frequently, so plug it in every day (I assume you have home charging?)

I charge to 50% since I don't use 100+ miles of range per day. For my 200-mile round-trip to San Antonio over the weekend, I charged to 90%+ and had plenty to spare.

Of course, on road trips you'll discharge deeply and charge up as far as you can, and that's fine. For daily use, just fill as much as you need.

If you really want to charge to 90%+ every day, your pack will be just fine, but will slowly lose more range over time than it ordinarily would.

I'll charge higher when there's a storm warning. Unfortunately, not all power outages are announced ?

My daily charge use is 65% lowest I’ve came back home was around 20%, when I’m out all day (9:30 am) doing errands till (7:00 pm). I use to do 80% then 70% but found 65% is perfect for my needs ?

I charge with my 12v, because I've been too lazy to install the wall charger. Still, whenever i needed the juice, i have a breaker box thing, i forget what its called, hooked up to the dryer and a super heavy duty extension cord, which I've always had zero issues with my model y, when i need to pump it up, i guess i have range anxiety. While i never need more than 15-25% in a day, i get paranoid whenever it isn't at 80%. Based on these comments, sounds like i need to relax?

I used to have that issue with range anxiety but it’s cooled down. I charge also via the mobile Tesla charger even at like 17 amp for over night charging for trickle charging ??

This is a useful thread. I've always charged to 80% but I don't use more than 20% in a normal workday so I'm going to test charging it to 50% for a while since worst case I'd end up at 30% by the time I get home. If this prolongs the battery life I'm all in.

If your typical usage is 20%, then I would suggest 60% as you will nominally stay nearest to that 50% SoC.

Over time this kind of thing will be second nature to you.

Lots of good advice above.

Two points not covered or not covered enough.

If you are TOWING charge it up to 100% you are going to need it.........

I recommend at least 80% if you lose power more than once or twice a year and I would bump it over 90% if there is a storm coming. That 123kw can power your house with powershare /generator inlet, or you can run a bunch of extension cords and save your groceries etc for a week.
