imo if your going to run a dedicated cable you might as well get a separate 3rd part mount closer to eye level. Plenty of magsafe options for either the screen or pillar.

Also, if you’re an Apple person isn’t this your fastest option?

Very light and small. You could adhere it the current pad at exactly the right height for your phone.
Love the idea though.
Anyone know how to disable the native charger?

I had mobile service come out to swap out my overheating wireless charger (iPhone 16 Pro Max). I gave them the new part number. When the guy showed up yesterday, he said the part looked used and he called Tesla to ask why he got a used part. According to him, it was pulled from another truck that had same issue. The part he brought and my existing part was the same part number, which was the "new" one according to this forum with the heatsink.

So, the heatsink is not fixing the problem. The tech was told by Tesla engineering to not install these and await what will be yet another new version of the wireless charger. He noted my account of the issue and I'm waitlisted for when the new part comes out from Tesla engineering.

I put in a service request to have this done via mobile service after reading the original post here. They came to the house, did the swap and the replacement part threw up a few errors in the Cybertruck system. Turns out they have put a company wide hold on this replacement as the "fix" is causing more issues than it solves. The guy actually had to put the old one back and tell me to wait as Tesla Engineering was still working on the solution. Oh well.
This is exactly right - company wide hold. I had mobile come out yesterday and even the new heatsink one is causing more issues then it helps. He said it's because it's more than a wireless charger it's also the keycard authentication device. So it's not just a physical swap and they are there's no clear instructions on how to do it without causing additionally issues yet. He also said a new new version is coming out to remediate this known issue from Tesla engineering with no timeline though....

I just got my truck back where they switched out the hardware and it’s much better! Chargers faster and less hot.

So much for the company wide hold. Glad you are working with no issues, but clearly not all of Tesla is on the same page on this issue.

I just picked up my truck after having this and the cantrail recall done. My Samsung S24 Ultra definitely is not as hot charging. I don't know how fast it is but I charged 48-52 on a 30 minute drive home and it didn't get hot, just warm. I briefly ran Ampere and saw good charging rates but hard to say how much it was on the full drive. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a service bulletin, especially for original trucks like mine (VIN 00755).

Just to provide an update, it's definitely cooler in the shade but in direct sunlight it will get warm still, which makes sense. I wish there was cooling built into the console to actively cool the phones.

with such a large windshield, we should all be installing UV clear tint in the front, this will also double duty for cooler wireless charger, blocking UV/cooler cabin, anyone have this experience?

My guess is that sunlight isn’t really the culprit.
More like heat loss from misalignment and air gaps…
I’m getting near zero heat using the MagSafe chargers which are literally in the exact same place.

No but my tint is completely crucial for temp and energy management. Just got a new car without it and the difference is shocking.

Today it was raining all day and a lot cooler so I tried putting my iphone 15 in the wireless charger for the first time in a long time. The center console was not hot like it usually is. On a 15 minute drive I gained 7%. So at least for me, the console and charging area being cooler made a difference today.

100% agree. Tint makes such a big difference in the CT. That dash is a huge heat-sink and just radiates heat when the sun is out. Not only does the cabin get cooler faster, but I immediately noticed increased efficiency/range. Also noticed it helped a bit with the heat from charging, namely in direct sunlight.

I just got one of those silicone charging mats from Amazon that goes over the existing wireless charger. I'll see how that does.

Fwiw I had my appointment today and my service center said they tested my wireless charger and it was functioning fine so if I wanted the new one I would have to pay for the install. I passed.

Told my SC that my phone constantly overheated and only charged maybe 1% every 30mins. They replaced it (presumably with the updated unit) under warranty, and I can confirm that I have not had an overheat incident since on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I don't think it charges any faster. Beyond a total rework and somehow integrating Qi2 or Magsafe, I doubt we'll ever get fast charge speeds with these stupid camera bumps.
