One year check: do magnets rust the Cybertruck?

I picked up my FS AWD in June 2024 and slapped on the first magnet a few weeks later. I've now got four magnets on the tailgate, all applied at different times, and outside of cleaning every few months they don't get removed. That means making it through downpours, snow, ice, salted roads, mud, grime, highway filth and whatever else the roads and trails bring. This video is the latest in a periodic series on our channel doing some long-term testing on Cybertruck's stainless steel.

Scratching from magnets depends entirely upon:

• Geology of where you drive
• Industrial pollution of where you drive
• Amount of salt in the air where you drive
• Amount of water in the air where you store your vehicle
• How you apply/remove the magnets
• Do they ever get slid around without removal/cleaning
• Do you check/clean when they get crusty
• Do you remove them during cleaning
• Did you apply them to a salty/dirty/wet surface

There's just a bunch of variables here. The biggest takeaway should be: Make sure to clean the magnetic surface and the surface they're being attached to.

BINGO. I wasn't concerned at all about possible corrosion which is why I started slapping them on early in my ownership experience. Heck, it's easier than decals and leaves no sticky residue. Plus I can move them or remove them at any time. I think Cybertruck is fantastic for stuff like this, better than any other vehicle I've owned.

The Cybertruck is the most endlessly easy vehicle to clean, at any rate.

Nice, I have about a dozen magnets on the back of the tailgate as my avatar shows. But, I PPF'd my truck, so, rust has never crossed my mind! Thanks for testing!
