Here's some quick early feedback on how 14.1.7 has addressed the issues I experienced with 13.2.9.

To be clear, FSD is magical - it feels a bit ridiculous to nitpick about a car that drives itself. Really, this is about measuring the delta between present state and full autonomy.

My original issues, and my experience on 14.1.7:

  • I've had more safety interventions in the last two days than the previous two months, including the truck twice trying to use a lane into oncoming traffic. I'd gotten so comfortable with it's safety that this really caught me off guard. -> NO SAFETY INTERVENTIONS YET.
  • Turning from outside left lane crosses into inside left lane mid turn on double left turn lanes (including if cars are making the correct inside to inside turn). -> SOLVED.
  • Late braking (not as bad as a few versions ago, but still a bit uncomfortable). -> SOLVED.
  • Late lane changes - I've missed more exits and turns in the past two days than the past six months - FSD doesn't plan ahead to get into an appropriate lane until way too late. -,> SOLVED
  • Changing into a lane that's just about to end, every time. Embarrassing in rush hour traffic when other vehicles then block me out. This happens for lanes that are ending on the right or left side - it just prefers a lane that ends. -> NO INSTANCES YET BUT MORE TESTING REQUIRED.
  • Random windshield wiper activations (seems to take longer for the wiper to unnecessarily activate, but it still activates every trip, in glorious sunshine with a clean windshield). -> MUCH REDUCED. SOME TRIPS IN DRY WEATHER NEVER ACTIVATE THE WIPER.
  • My Cybertruck continues to refuse to pull into my driveway - it likes to go into my neighbor's driveway, or into the gated community on the other side, but it has never once brought be to my home (even though the pin is right on top of it). -> SOLVED! FINALLY PULLS INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WILL EVEN BACK INTO MY VERY NARROW ANGLED GARAGE SPOT IF I REVERSE IN. MY NEIGHBOR'S ARE PLEASED MY TRUCK NO LONGER DEPOSITS ME IN THEIR DRIVEWAY!
  • YouTube music doesn't change account with driver - still have to log out my wife's account, scan the QR code, then enter the code in my phone every time. My wife has to do the same when she drives after I have. -> SOLVED SO FAR.
  • Random signal activation - the blinkers go on for a while, then off. Then on again. Then off. The people behind don't know what the hell is going on - they kindly leave lots of room for a lane change that never comes. -> STILL HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY BUT FAR LESS AND FOR MUCH SHORTER DURATION - A FEW SECONDS INSTEAD OF A FEW BLOCKS.
  • Getting into the truck in my garage, which is a tight fit, will show "Park assist is degraded" which I first thought meant there's an issue with the cameras but I think means just at that moment, because park assist does indeed work. That warning probably shouldn't come on until one tries to use park assist. -> SOLVED.
  • The truck mostly guesses the wrong direction for the transmission if I get into it with the garage closed - it wants to go forward into the wall and doesn't change its mind after the garage door to the rear opens. So once it's decided a direction, it doesn't change its mind with new information (probably the intended behavior - you don't want directional surprises. -> SOLVED. EVEN WHEN IT GUESSES FORWARD, IF I ACTIVATE SELF DRIVING IT CORRECTLY SWITCHES TO REVERSE AND BACKS OUT OF MY GARAGE.
The remaining quibbles are ridiculously minor: it doesn't yet optimize its parking spot selection to be the closest to the destination where multiple spots are available, it would be great to have "drive thru" as a destination option, as well as "" Street parking", and I'd love to have granular speed control come back for school zones (and I miss the little blue steering wheel that turned with the wheels!). But my Cybertruck in most cases takes me from my garage to my destination without me ever touching the wheel or pedals.

14.1.7 is a remarkable upgrade.

My safety alerts have quadrupled, and I have 3 strikes this week.

I'll be looking straight ahead, eyes on the road, and it'll give me a warning. If I don't notice the warning on the screen, because I'm paying attention to the road, l get the audible alert.

It's also braking at the slightest provocation by a car or motorcycle, if they're approaching from a side street governed by a stop sign, and I have the right of way.

Other aspects are smooth as glass.

Can't wait for the next version.

Check the focus/cleanliness of your interior camera. Some folks have had their driver-facing camera be fuzzy, leading to lots of warnings. You can view it on the app or in the car with the camera preview screen.

Thanks for the tip. My interior camera is crystal clear, but my forward facing camera was cloudy so I cleaned the windshield. This is how it looks now… is this a camera issue?

The same day I got 14.1.7 my Cybertruck was in for service to get the snow tires on and, without being asked, they cleaned the forward windshield camera and glass. Maybe that's why my results have so improved.

Yours looks mighty cloudy to me. Worth having them clean it (there was no charge in my case; not sure if there's one if you bring it in for just that reason).

I have had issues with FSD and sunglasses since 13.2.9. I drove from Maryland to Arizona with sunglasses on, using FSD and the only major issues were due to poor right and left turns (of which there were many, and I reported as many as I could). On my return trip with FSD 13.2.9 I was getting nagged constantly, every 10-20 minutes. I tried three different pairs of sunglasses, the last ones were light enough and clear enough to see my eyes but even those sunglasses didn't stop the nag.

I checked the in-cabin camera feed and aside from me looking a bit like Jabba the Hut due to fisheye distortion, it appears to be working as designed.

FSD 14.1.7 is no better, the nags started minutes into my first FSD drive. My beast is in for service and when I dropped it off I asked the service tech how one would go about reporting such an issue, and as expected I got "Well, um, we don't...". I asked Grok what I should do about my dillema and learned that there is a voice command "bug report" followed by a short description of the issue that you can submit to Tesla. According to Grok, it's the best and fastest method of reporting issues quoting Grok: "Tesla engineers review these routinely, especially for FSD/Cybertruck." Maybe instead of not using FSD altogether I'll engage and report issues as they arise.

My understanding (and I stand to be corrected on this) is that infrared, or maybe a combination of infrared and camera, is used to monitor the driver's eyes. Maybe your sunglasses block IR?

Because I break or lose so many pairs of sunglasses, I buy the cheapest I can find. They barely block sunlight let alone IR...

I believe that would be improved by cleaning the interior glass under the glare shield in front of the forward camera. Tesla will do that for you for free now, or you can try it yourself. I have yet to do it myself, but @CyberGus has pulled it off (so to speak) and has a tutorial on it somewhere in the forum.

I don't think that will affect the nags, though. But it might help you not lose FSD in bright sun and glare.

From what I have been reading the infrared illuminators engage in dark and near-dark conditions. Apparently a smartphone camera can 'see' the glow from the IR illuminators but the human eye cannot. I tested this while parked in a garage and didn't see the lights from the smartphone camera but I think it was still too light, I'll test again after dark.

I guess the point is, FSD worked with no disengagements on my trip to Arizona on FSD 13.2.8, but not at all on my return trip running 13.2.9 several weeks later. Same route, same truck, same me, same sunglasses, different version of FSD software.

Yeah.....I got a notification on the main screen to bring it in for a complimentary camera clean and to schedule it in Service (app). Going to take them up on that ASAP.

I detailed my cleaning journey here:

If the haziness is visible in the preview, then you need to be sent outside to clean.

Given there's a cooling fan on the forward cameras, this is going to be part of regular maintenance for FSD users. Still better than changing the oil, though

Agreed here, like the update so far. Acceleration is better, seems more decisive, etc. Only complaint I have is a few more somewhat hard braking events when not necessary - but the older version seemed to have more problems with keeping speeds close to limits and lane centering is much better.

I just had mine cleaned yesterday. No charge.
