Showing the % of FSD usage probably will factor into who gets the updates in the future first. Why send an early update to people that do not use it often.
GREAT point.... Weird how many don't want to give up "control" Now that we've had the FSCB for over a year on FSD and the Y a year or so before. Personally I have found out that a high percentage disengagements turned out to be my fault.... Now, I understand that I acted to soon to intervene and take over Now I wait to see what it is trying to do and let it figure it out (parking lots, parking, taking a different route, etc.
BUT here is what just happened... V 14. I tell it where to go, press start self drive- It now backs out of the garage, stops for fire trucks, pulls intpo my driveway, recognizes School zone speeds, and drives 100+ miles in pouring rain (in AZ?) from Prescott to Mesa AZ when I could barely see the lines in the road without any disengagement... I would have needed a massage if I had to have driven home but just supervising FSD was so much more relaxing, Less Nag!!.... V14 is the Bomb!

I have 14.1.7 and my long-distance drive to Texas was great. I love the new speed selection with Sloth, chill, standard, hurry and mad max. So much better than trying to roll up and down the mph. The bad weather FSD reduced speed because the sensor was clouded. Every once in a while, the car wanted swerve around something and scared the shit out of me. I am thinking the rain on asphalt repairs was more shinny perhaps it thought it was a hole. Not anticipating this really catches you off guard.

Rolled in with 11% and BMS handled preconditioning.
The BMS will only pre-condition optimally if you have a charging stop entered as your destination and that charging stop is entered soon enough to give the BMS enough time to preheat the whole pack. The BMS prefers to divert waste heat from the motors, electronics and computer to warm the battery, but because the waste heat is minimal, it can take a long time. The colder it is, the longer it takes.

as a 14.2 owner……..my advice…..stick to 14.1.7. Do not update until 14.2.1 or something comes out.

The nag is not a problem, not on any recent version, once you learn how to use it. Just watch a Chuck Cook video where he is all over his screen, using it, looking at it, scrolling it, and nary a nag. Because he's learned to use his tools. When he does get a rare nag, he immediately notices and makes it go away painlessly.

I rarely get a nag either. So I simply don't get all the crying about nags. Seems like a user problem to me, not a system problem. It's there for a reason, for people who only think they are alert and paying attention. The solution is more competence and less whining.

I would agree with you except for one thing. 14.1.7 was even worse in my case. Now, it did profiles better, was less timid, and wasn’t quite as bad at mapping … BUT:

It tried to kill me twice on mountain roads and once on a major highway on Sunday! Someone else mentioned this recently and I experienced this only once before in some early build of v13; but the car becomes confused with squiggly asphalt road to repairs if the sunlight hits them in just the right way.

I think that there are cases where the sun comes in at an angle such that these black tar markings look white and it thinks that there’s suddenly an erratic symbol/lane change in the middle of the road telling it to do God knows what and so what it decides to do, invariably, is SWERVE!!

I’m letting this thing drive me on snow banked mountain roads and the only reason I didn’t get into a head on is because nobody was coming in the opposite direction [Although presumably if someone was coming it would’ve maybe just slammed on the bricks I don’t know]. Absolutely terrifying! This happened twice within an a 10 mile trip up in the mountains and then once on the main freeway.

Also one thing I thought I would never say is that in the mountains it was going too fast even in sloth mode. Sloth mode was previously slightly BELOW the speed limit, now it was doggedly doing the exact speed limit— which is too fast for the road condition. [And since I no longer have the speed dial, I couldn’t make it go slower.]

So, my experience in the rapid procession over the last week and a half from whatever the last v13 we had we had to 14.1.7 to 14.2 has been as follows:

Stable, but lacking > more capable, but dangerous > timid and dumb.

I think “timid and dumb” is better than the alternative offered by 14.1.7.

What is always surprising to me though is how much variation there is between users and use cases even after we get a “stable” build.

Thx. It was the second stop on a 400+ mile trip.

In addition to wide turns, I’m also driving very close to parked cars again. I flinch every time worrying I’m about to take out mine and other’s mirrors.
For me as well. Hugging right side of road. And in our rural area we have mailboxes sticking out, so this is a bad combo. Also the nav choices are awful - a simple route and for some reason it goes way out of the way (v13 took the optimal route). For me 1 step forward but 2 back.

I have a prompt on my CT screen that 14.2 is ready to install. However, I do NOT want to install it atm. It only gives me an option to "install now" or schedule for 2 AM.
Any idea how to defer it?

Hmmmm, I think I take back my statement that I really liked it. 14.1 was great. Took off from stops like a normal person and I could choose a profile that drove at or above the speed limit.

14.2 drives slow. Real slow. In mad max mode it drives 3-5 miles under the speed limit. Standard mode it drives 5-10 under the speed limit. I can goose it, and it speeds up, but after a while if I look at the screen we’re not supposed to look at I’m going under the speed limit again. This is really annoying.

It still misses every single 70 mph sign.

I got caught in the chaos of trying to find an address down deep in ASU disorder. Pre holiday break zombie students walking and scootering everywhere, light rail trains sharing lanes in the road, weird crow bar roundabouts, fire trucks with sirens, road work barriers, lane splitting motorcycles and cars running reds and going wrong way down one way streets. This is a 2 mile by 2 mile area, very tight. FSD 14.2 handled it. No stuttering, no phantom brakes or wiping, easy and smooth and confident. I would have been a blubbering mess without FSD down there.

Also, here is the ugly rear end of the new Waymo vehicle, Zeekr. All that headgear just to do what Tesla's do without for autonomous.

Lots of conflicting talk. Honestly I haven’t read it all yet. I just got the update. Should I do it???!!! (I have a cross country road trip in two weeks) will I be better off sticking to 14.1.7?
