I will be purchasing a home this year and would like to hear from all of you that have experienced home charging from different perspectives and chargers. What do you suggest? I expect that the Tesla home charger will be “the best option” but wanted to confirm that from all of yall. (The family has 2 EVs and they are both Teslas. But would prefer a universal option, of course.)

What say you?

Tesla Universal Wall Connector has been great and works with J1772. It also allows group power mode so you can set a combined charging limit (not cross compatible with Powershare).

When Mongo speaks on this you listen. I will second what he said, not just because he is Mongo, but because it really is the best option. I have the Tesla Universal as well, I'd want nothing else.

Tesla UWC is best choice unless you have a power company like the ones in Florida I think that offer fixed cost for using one they make.

Tesla integrates into your app so theres value there. Others have it beat by price.
Not to mention charge on solar and group power management and opening the charge port with a single button press

and the ability to send power back if you have power share - eventually... so many reasons to go with the Tesla charger and only one to not - price.

That is where I am at, but realized I may not have all the answers/information.

I just bought another Tesla to go with my CyberBeast. (Got a new MSP). I have a Tesla charger already and am getting another one installed at my other house.

It depends. I like 2 options - both Tesla. If you already have a NEMA 14-50 plug in your garage, buy the $20 hanger and use the mobile charger that comes with your vehicle. It works great.
If you need to run wire and add a breaker, go with 60 AMP and the Universal wall charger. You’ll get 11 kW/h vs 7 with the mobile charger. As others have said, it ties into your app. You can set what can charge by serial number which is very handy if you have it outside - only the EV’s you designate can charge.
I’ve done both. Mobile when I charged the M3 in the garage - UWC now that I charge the CT outside.

Both great options. We also have a J1172 charger at my shop that the previous homeowner installed. It’s dumb. Yes it charges successfully, Tesla has better options.

Try looking at emporia. They have affordable smart power monitoring systems also that you can use to complement the charger to manage overall load on your whole house electrical system. The charger itself has both NACS and J1172 options to pick from. The feature I like most with respect to cybertruck is the optional nema 14-50 plug at 40A max rating. You can still hardwire this one for a 48A charging. I was able to just use the NEMA 14-50 on 50A breaker circuit without any modification. For 48A I would have to upgrade the wiring to match a 60A breaker to be up to code. If done right and to the cose, the 14-50 outlet could be used to power your home from cybertruck or a generator with a cable in case of a power outage. The outlet is also flexible for any mobile connector the is not a NACS. Some electric companies also have discounts and yearly rewards for this, YMMY. You would have to deal with an additional app though as a con.
