Thanks! I appreciate it. I’ll just use a heat setting that’s tolerable on my hand like you did.
I think it is less to do about the heat used as it is about the pressure you use with the pliers. Pliers multiply force so just don't squeeze them in too much. Just use a little pressure. If it doesn't work the first time you can always increase in incements with further iterations.

Sorry to keep an old thread alive… I’m about to try this with the same Amazon heat gun. Anyone remember what heat level they used? (The dial number specifically)
Thanks!
I have a much better hack. Tell service your CT states it needs cleaning in front of the windshield cameras…when they take off the cover to clean the window in front of the camera, it _will_ break…and instead of the 15-30 minute service visit you are told to plan for, it will be 4 hours and you’ll get a new one installed.

To my understanding, they don't need to remove the part spoken about in this thread to do the windshield cleaning where the cameras are. I know this because they've supposedly cleaned that area 3 times since I did this "hack." The two "cover" parts are independent of each other.

I think @mongo can probably confirm this.

"Evidently" a change added a pin in the overhead selector into the beauty cover, necessitating the removal of the former to detach the latter. I cannot confirm this, because my early-2024 model lacks this pin (or I carelessly snapped it off the first time I did the cleaning, lol)

I don’t see how that would work, but mine broke for cleaning and was replaced.

It has to be at least partly removed due to overlapping parts. I pop the gear selector loose by pulling on the camera shroud (probably a bad idea).

Well, to no surprise by me they probably did not clean my windshield properly (or at all) since I don't see how they would have gotten it off, yet my truck has been in there 3 times to get it cleaned since I did my fix. And the service tickets reported they cleaned the area. At least 2 times since the fix anyway. Or maybe they did actually get it off and back on again... 🤔

Also, for anyone doing this, you don't have to heat that plastic too much. Don't go melting things with all those wires and electronics nearby. I set my heat gun to a moderate temperature that I could feel on my hand without scorching me, and I used that narrow attachment to blow the air mostly inside the female component. It's the inside walls of the receptacle that you want to be mallable so they "stretch" when you squeeze with the pliers.

And for anyone who doesn't have a heat gun, this one on Amazon is cheap and is what I used:

I originally bought it to fix a ding in my bumper where the approved Tesla Collision Center wanted to replace the whole bumper for like $2K. You can't even tell it was dinged anymore.

I just added this to the end of the original post as well.
Great advice. Ordered the Heat Gun (get the one specified it has variable power). I used the following setting and it is holding fine so far:
Tesla Cybertruck Fix for loose overhead console assembly (where magnetic sunvisors attach) 1773169628947-ky

Thanks so much OP for this fix! SC wants me to remove my aftermarket video camera rear mirror and pay 470+ for parts. 3min with this process and my console is now firmly in place! Cancelled appt! Thank you again!
