Shoutout to @ReidT22440 and @TeslaPatriot for the inspiration. I used some cheap butyl mats as the base, then went over that with Second Skin Damplifier Pro. The @Cybertruck door is SOLID! More pics below. I’ll finish up the rest of the doors tomorrow. 😮💨




I only did the driver-side door today, but I’ll be finishing the others tomorrow. I used two layers of butyl mats (first layer was a generic brand, followed by a second layer of Second Skin Damplifier Pro which is good stuff!) plus foam on the door and beltline panels.

I can already tell it makes the door feel much more solid. No rattling at all! It does require removing the window and closeout panel to reach the empty cavity, though.

Nice! How hard was it?
The clips on the door panel were being difficult, I’m surprised I didn’t break any in the process. Other than that it was pretty straightforward.

I understand/hear the sound difference between before and after applying sound dampening material, my concern, does this make an measured difference in road noise improvement to justify the amount of work and cost of materials required.

I understand/hear the sound difference between before and after applying sound dampening material, my concern, does this make an measured difference in road noise improvement to justify the amount of work and cost of materials required.
Before I did this my baseline reading at 70MPH on the highway was 65dB. It was pretty quiet.
After putting down the butyl and foam mats it dropped down to 62dB. So I would say it’s noticeable, but I’m gonna try to make it quieter! 🤫

I applaud your efforts, and if time allowed, I would definitely try this.
My question is, besides the door panels, aren’t there many other forms of audible ingress? i.e. windows, door seals, HVAC, back seat bolstering, frunk access points, etc?
If true sound deadening were to be achieved, I would imagine there are other many obstacles to encounter

Yes, there’s so much more that can be done. Next up is to put butyl and insulation on the rear cab wall to stop noise from the rear wheels and truck bed. I’m also gonna remove the door panels again to add insulation.

A majority of the noise comes from the windshield and windows, which you can’t do a whole lot with anyway.

I'm sure that makes a big difference but Cybertruck has one of the loudest HVAC systems I've ever experienced in a car.

I would think a bigger difference in the cabin would come from figuring out how to sound deaden the HVAC system IMO.

I agree! Part of it is because the blower motor is literally mounted at the top right under the front dash. Installing any sound deadening insulation in these empty cavities will also help with road noise.

Is that directly under the top trim of the dash? Ive been trying to figure out where a loud metal tapping noise is occurring when going over potholes or large cracks

For next level sound deadening you can spray this in the nooks and crannies of the door after applying the sheets of deadner.

Did you also adjust the flushness of your windows while you’re at it?

Do you recall anything that would cause a metal tapping noise near the driver side dash area when you disassembled it?
I can’t recall anything. Could it be the panel right below the squircle?
