So how does this work? You install the app on your phone and then…

It’s a web app, so you sign up on your phone and log in thru the Tesla browser.

I'm trying to figure this out as well. I didn't see any app on Apple's App Store.
Would love to see a more detailed demo of this as their website is behind a paywall.
My guess: HotSpot your phone or (in my case) join the same network as my vehicle's SSID, then cast to the IP address.
From what I saw, there didn't seem to be any latency between the sound and the video on screen. If I was to indulge, it'd definitely be for the purpose of letting my passenger watch a movie while road tripping or playing music videos.
I'm surprised the video still works in motion though - super intrigued as to how they managed to pull this off.

No hotspot required, just runs off the vehicles data. The app has its own search bar to search videos and you can send YouTube links to your ā€œmy videosā€ section it’s pretty cool

I put my phone on a mount just to the left of the steering wheel (sideways) and watch YT that way. Tesla doesn’t mind me looking at the phone there but I can’t look at my 18 inch screen for more than a couple seconds before it complains. So I would not have a need for this workaround.

Be careful out there. It's still illegal to have a video screen in view of the driver with the exception of navigation aids and vehicle systems information.

$10/mo? Same price as Tesla Premium Connectivity...

That's what I don't get about these things. It should be over LAN right?
That means it cost no bandwidth or any server resources.

Just do a one time cost. I'm going to make an alternative.

What mount do you use? I've tried several window and flatscreen mounted types but haven't found one that reaches just above or to the left of steering wheel in front of the dash.

This one I got AnySix.com, has a good range of motion. Don’t see it on their website currently though

This one: https://www.amazon.com/Furniok-Phone-Mount-Tesla-Cybertruck-Magnetic-Type

It stays put without adhesives and can slide left or right even while it has a phone on it. Pretty cool design. The magnet is the perfect strength so that the phone never falls off but it's easy to dismount the phone when you pull it straight off the mount.
