i have another idea for a test. tape over the slots instead. that should block the wind well enough to see if the noise stops. it has not been cold enough here so i cant try it yet.
Good idea. My service guy says there is no part#. He just ordered a whole new arm.

well turns out that it was cool enough today after all, at least cool enough to get the noise. i don't think its from the wiper hose. during the noise i tried to swipe the wipers and the noise doesn't change at all, so that leads me to believe the wiper or hos is not the cause.
on a side not, if your hose it all floppy in the arm look under the base of the arm and you can pull the slack down there so its not loose in the arm.

The noise is coming from the FDU.

I had mine replaced with the part number ending in F and although the sound isn’t completely gone, it’s much quieter than it was before and I can’t hear it anymore at lower speeds.

I’ve been following threads on this topic for awhile and the only ones that have confirmed the sound is completely gone are from the people who’ve had their FDU replaced with part number 1930000-TX-G.

Why was your Front Drive Unit replaced?

Can you post the invoice from when they replaced the FDU? I’d like to see the tech notes and also how you worded the symptoms.

This is what I put down in pretty much all 4 invoices….

Concern: Customer states: Noise & Vibration - Noise Type: Other

Is the Noise Reproducible?: Yes

Reproduce By: At highway speed

Additional Notes (Optional): A metallic noise, like a bad bearing, is coming from the front drive unit area. This is not the normal gear/motor sounds. The noise is heard at approximately 35-55mph and most prevalent at approximately 45mph when the motor is cold. Noise is heard when cruising or regen. Noise is not heard when accelerating.

Sigh. I can confirm today that the noise is nothing to do with the washer hose fluttering. I tied mine down with three 4" zip ties, really well. Last night I left the truck outside, so it would be cold in the morning (45 degrees). On a test drive, there was no noise for the first mile, but then it turned on. It is still there. How much does a FDU replacement cost?

It’s a truck, therefore I don’t hawk over sounds like I should.
What version are we targeting as the replacement?
part number 1930000-TX-H+?

The worry isn't just an annoying noise..... it is likely a symptom of parts gnashing or grinding, that shouldn't be.

My understanding, FDU issues that have happened are in revisions up to and including G
We want H+ as replaced FDU revisions
True?

Based on comments here, Rev-G is the fix. Haven't seen someone post having noise issues with a Rev-G.

Update on my Beast: Tesla replaced the FDU to the latest FDU rev L and I can confirm the bad bearing, flutter, crackling noises are gone, plus it’s much quieter overall. South County St Louis Tesla did a GREAT JOB!

New Update: I can confirm after driving with the new FDU the last several days what I noticed immediately, it feels like I have a new Truck. Since the Cyberbeast’s primary mover is the FDU, this new FDU REV L makes the Truck feel night and day from the original! The POWER DELIVERY is totally changed in all the best ways. Smooth, quiet, more efficient, and faster. Immediate linear power right from the start. The original FDU while also making all the extra noises was Jerky and slower to react especially when it wasn’t warmed up. That’s my 2 cents. Get this new REV-L if you have the issues I had and are described in this post, and have a Beast, you will love it.
