So this is something that needs to be done every so often? I thought the iron contamination happened just on some of the trucks during shipping? Mine has it and there is pitting in the brown spots, the truck has not been wet or in the rain after delivery. Shouldn't Tesla be doing this when they get the trucks before delivery?
I think once is going to be enough for me. The surface rust is gone.

And it's not for everyone.

I think Tesla is doing a better job now, possibly because they noticed all the complaints.

A positive side note is that I took the Cybertruck out to watch the Total Eclipse. As you might imagine the Cybertruck got more attention than the Eclipse from some of the crowd. :)

I was ask by a couple of different people what the wrap was, and then agian if it was wrapped...

Answer is obviously no, but that's simply how even I was able to get the finish to look after the passivation cleaning.

Passivating it is genius. I'm surprised this isn't a factory process that Tesla is doing! Ordered my 2310 and I'm gonna try this soon. How has it held up so far?

Stainless steel will also self-passivate. I just got mine dirty a few times, left it out in the rain and under the trees, washed it with soap and water when I wanted a clean truck, and it looks great. I haven't noticed a fingerprint problem that so many seem so freaked out about, except when I picked it up at the delivery center it was a real fingerprint magnet. Now it looks like it's self-passivated without having to do anything special.

I used the Tesla-recommended CitriSurf 77 and the ScotchBrite-Blue pad on my frunk lid, since it's taken the bulk of the punishment thus far. It cleaned up well and I am pleased with the results.

It'll take my arm muscles awhile to work up to scrubbing the whole truck lol
How does the fingerprint problem compare to the DeLorean?

Delorean owners have been complaining about fingerprints since forever, so I’d say it’s an accepted feature ?

I passivated my Cybertruck today and it worked well. I decided to use CitriSurf 2310, which has a higher viscosity, so works better on vertical surfaces.

Though I have passivated Stainless Steel using Nitric Acid in the past, the CitriSurf 2310 seemed a little easier to keep wet on the surface, and is safer to use.

It was a bit tricky to apply, but I followed the instructions and kept it moist on the truck for about 25-30 minutes, and then started rinsing it off. I ended up rinsing it and wiping the entire truck off with microfiber towels several times, mainly because I absolutely didn't want to use glass cleaner as a neutralizer (as has been suggested to use on this forum along with BKF), and because clean water is what is recommended by the manufacturer.

Now that it's passivated correctly, fingerprints are even less of a problem, see video... This is how I expect stainless steel to be... very, very hard and resistive to corrosion of any kind.

It should also be free from any/all iron contamination now.
So a simple, spray, wait and wipe was all it took? Did you prep before with a wash? I'm going to attempt this and want to make sure I don't leave out any steps.

Question - I tried the 2310 this morning. Not easy keeping it moist for 15-30 minutes but I kept spritzing it and spreading with a microfiber. I now have areas like these. How do I remedy? Is this from it starting to dry?

I had a mess with fallout and iron from delivery. CitriSurf took that away. I sprayed it on and tried my best to keep it moist for 15 minutes. Sprayed more CitriSurf and moved around with microfiber to not let it dry. I rinsed off with water and dried. Rinsed more after that. I'm not sure what went wrong. Most looks good. Just some areas. Hopefully correctable.definately wrapping it now.

I'm tempted to toss the citri in the trash and go the BKF route to see if I can make look better.

Update: I went round 2 with CitriSurf. Kept it moist for sure on top of frunk. Did the front of frunk the exact same as earlier. Same method same amount of time. The top of the frunk still has the areas. No change from first attempt to second. The front of the front looks beautiful! No blemishes or spots. What I expected to be the outcome. So now I'm thinking those areas were there before and CitriSurf revealed them. It looks to me as what an oil sprayed on it would do. I feel pretty sure the CitriSurf process didn't cause the areas now. Next hope is the stainless does it's oxidation thing and it disappears. Maybe the OP or some of you other metal experts can weigh in?
