New cyberbeast, brought in for unrelated service. Now Tesla wants to charge $150 for the wheel covers. Am I insane or aren't they supposed to be installed for free.

One would assume it should be free as they should have been originally installed by Tesla?

I'd fight that if I were you..

Estimate doesn't mean you'll be charged. I've seen estimates for something covered under warranty as well before the work begins but then it's waived off. I hope this is the same situation.

Nope... you should not! Did you get the recent email regarding the Cyber Wheel Covers from Tesla?

I did. But my truck was already in service (the usual post delivery touch ups and a differential issue) so I asked if they could add the covers.

Tesla Service typically shows their charges, even if they are internal for warranty work. I suspect Tesla corporate will take the $150 as an internal charge from the service center to a corporate charge entry somewhere on their G/L. This way the service center is compensated for the time on their P&L.

Should these show to the customer? No.

Did you ask for a set of wheel covers or did they just add it to the estimate themselves? You will get the free wheelcovers on their schedule when they are ready and when they have them in stock, but this looks to me like maybe you asked for a set of wheel covers so they just priced it out...

No, they will zero out the estimate for sure. The default is 150 for any work even under the warranty since it was generated by AI. SC will cancels these charges. It happened to me while aligning some minor panel issues after the delivery. No worry.
