Ever since delivery my iPhone 15 gets ridiculously hot while charging in either of the charging pads. I do wireless charging often - most frequently overnight on a Belkin MagSafe charger, like in the photo below. I know this isn't an issue for everyone - is this a phone issue or something with the CT? I would assume the CT since it works fine (doesn't overheat) in other wireless charging scenarios....

Apple has decided to go out in left field with the MagSafe charging protocol. Like the Lightning connector, it isn't a standard.
In their move to MagSafe, they tended to break the legacy chargers. So you will find MagSafe iPhones having issues on many chargers.

My older iPhone 14 non-MagSafe works fine.

If you are charging somewhere else, and just want the location as a holder, flip the phone over or upside down and it won't initiate charging.

And there are many other threads on the subject.

Turning my iPhone upside down and putting it in the charger, seems to make it actually charge a little bit. It still gets hot.

I’ve said this before, but I feel like this is going to end up having to be a recall. You can’t just have phone chargers that don’t work whatsoever in a truck like this let alone any modern vehicle. It’s my only pet peeve with truck. Minor but it needs to be fixed

They do work though, just not for Apple MagSafe devices. Tesla can just say it’s a problem with Apple and ignore it.

I put two magbak chargers on my display. The added benefit is the phone is now in clear view since we aren’t blessed with CarPlay.

I’m have the same issue and it’s a problem. Not sure what to do either. If anyone finds a work around please post it in here.

Why aren't yall in an Apple forum complaining about a MagSafe phone has problems charging on a non-MagSafe charger?

So I am confused. If this is Apple's fault why does the wireless charger in my Ford work fine on my iPhone?
How well does it work with other phones?

As far as I know, Apple moved the center of the charging spot higher on the phone. All the other standards measure it from the bottom up, Apple decided to make it wherever the magnet was. And that's much higher than the other standards.
Being higher, the protocol is having to kick power on high because of the misaligned coupling.

Think of it, you would always stand a phone in a charger before MagSafe. Now you center the phone on the magnet.

It works fine with Androids on the Ford.

I will say though... when I put my phone in right side up in the CT, it will not charge, but when I turn it upside down (facing me), it charges. However, it still gets hot. So you may have a point about it not being centered.
