It works fine with Androids on the Ford.

I will say though... when I put my phone in right side up in the CT, it will not charge, but when I turn it upside down (facing me), it charges. However, it still gets hot. So you may have a point about it not being centered.
My iPhone is the small one, it puts the coils probably about in the right place.

They do work though, just not for Apple MagSafe devices. Tesla can just say it’s a problem with Apple and ignore it.

I put two magbak chargers on my display. The added benefit is the phone is now in clear view since we aren’t blessed with CarPlay.
Can you share a link to what you have?

I'm pretty sure Tesla designed the phone charger to overheat the phones so that I don't use it. It'd be nice if they offered to fix it, but so far nope. Not even worth bringing up. I put my phone in it face down. Keeps it from charging and keeps me from looking to see who is texting me, so I guess it's a safety feature.

It’s cause of the camera bump. The more off centered the phone is from the pad, the more heat it’ll generate.

Just a data point on this, 83% of our US mobile web traffic is IOS (and of that, ~44% is iPhone 15); Tesla obviously knows this from their app telemetry, and should have correctly designed the charger for IOS devices. It's not that difficult, even bumping out the coil helps, together with some basic cooling. The charging pad in Highland isn't great, but at least it doesn't cook the phone.

Thanks for this information!! Wild that the numbers skew that high!!

I recently had a 2022 loaner MY with the updated interior and my iPhone 15 Pro Max charged fine.

It's a bit frustrating that the charger in the CT cooks my phone so bad.

I'm one of those weirdos that upgrades their iPhone every year on launch day, so I'm hoping the iPhone 16 will work, haha!! I'll know in September!!

Tesla doesn't design products for US only.

Your numbers are dramatically different for the remainder of the world.

I'm aware of that, but the current iteration of the CT is only for the US/North America, and that's what we're discussing on this thread. Outside of NA, IOS is about 61% of traffic. Big variations by country though, Android is the majority for France, Italy and most other Mediterranean countries, swings the other way for UK & Nordics.

Tesla does very little localization. Charge port and steering wheel are probably the biggest, if not only.

Seems like you should be able to pick the "power" of the charger via software... so you could turn it up or down based on the phone you're running.

The center console does have HVAC to it for the rear vents, so it also seems like a small port run to the phone charger would have been possible as well.

On my Rivian I had basically the same issue until someone designed a 3D printed thing that held 2 magsafe chargers and used the existing power for the phone heaters. Would love something like that for my CT. But the key reader is there as well so not sure we can just unplug the existing charger...
