The RAM TRX has the same style rear flip up seats, yet no latch pull is required, making it much easier to use versus having to pull multiple latches. Any thoughts as to why Tesla chose to use these latch pulls? Safety as it locks the seat? Seems against Teslas philosophy of reducing parts/cost.

I agree it the stupidest thing. It’s like they ran out of work for the interns and was like how bout you make a latching system for the Cybertruck. My GMC doesn’t have this ring pull system. Who knows maybe the latch system on other trucks are patented and Tesla didn’t want to pay the royalties.

Another stupid thing is the rear center armrest/cupholder latch. My niece nearly broke it trying to pull it down before she was told there is a ring pull hidden on the bottom. Who puts a ring pull on the bottom that matches the color of the seat (black) so it can’t be found at night. None of the other Teslas have this. Did someone order too many ring pulls that they had to make use of it somewhere stupid?

Someone needs to make a mod for this.

Definitely a safety thing:

https://www.consumerreports.org/car...h-protection-for-rear-passengers-a1076688478/

The Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra got top Good ratings in the IIHS’ updated side crash tests, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earned an Acceptable rating. However, the F-150, Ram, and Silverado all got the lowest Poor rating for rear seat safety, while the Tundra scored a second-from-the-bottom Marginal rating.

The trucks were tested as part of two of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s new tests, both of which include a dummy in the second row that represents a small woman or a 12-year-old child. The new side crash test takes place with a heavier barrier at a higher speed, to represent higher-speed crashes. The updated “moderate overlap” frontal test mimics crashes in which two vehicles driving in opposite directions hit each other at 40 mph, but not head-on, as if one car drifted across the center line of a roadway.

Likely safety. We have to pull a little tab in our F150 also to raise the seat and lock it up. If you don't lock it up in place well enough it can fall down on stuff or pets I'd say if back there.
