A little. But how would GEICO know if I financed $10k or $100k?
Very true. Financing is probably just a “yes or no” check box for the underwriter. No way they would know if it’s $10 or $100k.

So this probably isn’t the reason either. It must be related to the Cybertruck specifically. And I have confirmed it’s on a restricted list by the supervisor.

But how come then some people are getting insured still without issues and others aren’t? There is something we’re missing.

For example, if I called Geico right now and gave them a Bugatti Veyron Versace Edition VIN number, they are going to straight up tell me they can’t insure it. They aren’t going to give me a quote, insure it, and then drop me randomly in a few weeks or at renewal.

So what’s going on here with the Cybertruck? What’s the missing link?

I hope so, we really need a solution for this, fast!
DMV considers the CT a commercial vehicle. Geico says to get a commercial policy. What's the problem?

Could you provide a source for your claim that the Cybertruck is classified as a commercial vehicle by the DMV? It’s not to question your claim, it would be helpful for me to get to her bottom of this. It would also be news to many of us in this community. Thanks.

I have been invited to configure my nonfoundation CT. Did my test drive yesterdayand really liked it. After waiting 5 years it would truly suck if I have to pass on the CT because no semireasonable insurance is available. I did ask the sales staff about the insurance issue. They recommended Tesla insurance but otherwise acted??? Uninformed about high insurance.

Many pickup trucks are classified as commercial vehicles in many states and I don’t see news articles about people not able to buy Ford F-350s for lack of insurance availability or insurance fees that render the cost of ownership impossible.

Personally, I wish states would tell insurers that to do business in the state they insure everyone or nobody. If they all pull out then the state clearly has legal policy negotiation to do with the insurers to make clients in their state attractive to insurers again. If not, they have called the insurance company’s bluff and they make them insure without discrimination. There is a big difference in refusal of insurance because no insurance company could ever profit in such a legal environment and risk landscape vs a greedy company that wants to get away with highway robbery and not have to insure vehicles it thinks without good reason it will lose too much money insuring. I wonder if there is a third party interest paying off insurers to drop certain brands and vehcles to dissuade people from owning them…. Like maybe, I don’t know… an oil company making it so an insurance company won’t give out insurance to EVs in New York? Just a thought.

cheers

Just get Tesla insurance if you can. I pay $140/month for my Cyberbeast in SoCal. 100/300/500

You can steal a Kia just by looking at it, and a Cybertruck is the vehicle which is uninsursble?
We have Geico. They just renewed our policy, which has two Teslas on it, one of which is a Cybertruck. It's funny you mentioned Kia, though. They did drop coverage on my teenage daughter's Kia Seltos because of "security" issues. We had to have warranty work done and show proof of it being "fixed" to get it back on the policy.

I just saw an article stating GEICO is pulling their coverage of Cybertrucks. I have GEICO and have not been notified myself as of right now. Has anyone else encountered this?

Here's the link to the article:
