Happy Thanksgiving!

I placed an order in early October. I have no delivery date, and I just got a note that I need to redo my financing. Cherry on top is, cost of financing increased contrary to fed’s move last month. Yes, bond market yada I know idgaf - not the point of my story.

Via chat, I asked about the $2k referral credit and the $1k credit to me. So that’s $3,000 (however, I would miss out on the initial $100 deposit from 2020 and another $250 from October) in total….aaaaand I was of course told that referral credit can not be applied to existing orders.

In summary, I have:
1. no car
2. no financing and
3. no delivery date.

I am a current Tesla owner, and will not be trading it in. That said, it appears that a logical thing to do is order via a different email address and put it in my wife’s name. It is absurd that I am unable to get the $3k or even anything as an existing owner, but tesla rules are Tesla rules - fine.

When / if I take delivery in the near future, how difficult is it to merge the two accounts?

thanks!

I am a Tesla owner looking to trade in my Bolt for MY but if I refer myself I receive only $1k credit-of course I want/wish the combine or the $2k off. Either wait for Tesla to self refer & earn more or use my friends' referral link to knock off $2k. Exciting time!

It's a complete pain in the ass. Even more difficult is separating cars to two different accounts after a relationship goes south.
lol. We shall worry about the south in a different thread.

tesla one eight hundred is closed, hence the thread, I plan to call tomorrow either way to see what it takes to join two separate accounts.

In your experience, what did you have to do in order to join the accounts?

First it was phone calls, then if I recall we had to provide proof of ownership or registration for the vehicles being merged/separated. It wasn't smooth at the time, they got it wrong the first time (moved all vehicles into the wrong account) hopefully that has improved. This was 4 years ago.

I ordered this truck almost two months ago (or five years ago, depends how you look at it). Went through all the emotions of ownership without having to own it. At this point, I could go either way: could wait another year, or could get it now; for eighty two grand and almost a five year wait - I wouldn’t hate a $3k discount. I am a bit irritated at Tesla’s no fucks given approach, but it is what it is.

I just went through this whole headache last month. Here’s what Tesla told me after talking to 2 different people:

Since you’re already an owner, you get loyalty benefits (the, now, $2K off the truck) for additional purchases. You can’t use someone else’s referral link as that will require a new Tesla account.

You might notice if you use a referral link, you see the $2K off before checkout. You WON’T see loyalty benefits before checkout, but they will be applied immediately afterwards. In fact, I got the emails at the same time, both 11:50 AM.

If there’s anything I didn’t cover let me know. The process is still fresh in the memory haha

So existing owners get the $2k credit WITHOUT having to order via another person's referral code? I knew I couldn't get $3k myself- either $1000 credit for offering a friend or gaining $2k using a referral code. I did not know I could get the credit without a code. Existing deposited reservations as well, or only on a new order?
Thanks.

I’m confused then. I have an order, no delivery date, finance needs redone - do i just ask for $2k off in chat?

Right, your $2K loyalty benefit will be applied after placing your order. Mine wasn’t a pre-order with the $100 deposit so I can’t say for sure, but a friend of mine couldn’t get to his pre-order using my referral link, so it may not work with loyalty either for whatever reason.

Best idea we came up with was to cancel the pre-order and have them refund the $100 then use a referral to get the $2K off.

Tesla always keeps us guessing.

Do you have anything on your order agreement?

Near the bottom on mine I had “sales incentive.” That’s your loyalty benefit if you ordered from an account that has already taken delivery of any Tesla in the past. If you don’t have that, they messed something up on their end.
