Dated? Pfft. No manufacturer is building anything that comes close to the neato factor of the CT. I can't wait to drive around a stainless steel triangle truck that looks like something rendered on a PS1.

Also looking forward to the cool features like the yoke steering wheel, no door handles to mess with, possible solar roof panel, massively adjustable air suspension, Alon window glass, etc.

I look at what the competition is coming up with in the electric pickup arena and they are starting to make cyber truck look dated and not so futuristic. i cant understand how the other manufactures are beating Elon out of the gate. im sure most that have one reserved Will be staying Tesla is superior and so on etc......Defending Elon, shit he is flying rockets to mars surely he can start manufacturing cybertruck. the new hummer and new dodge look bad ass. and have lots of amenities and bells and whistle, you need to have more than a screen and seats to justify the cost, yes stainless steel bullet proof to 9 mm, some will shoot your cybertruck to see if its true, wait and see lol. if you damage it you can not fix panels you will have to do what replace the front or back section. the insurance will be very high. and the way the truck is changing, it does not feel right. Things are changing to elevate the price, nothing is what it had seemed. i guess im just not a minimalist type person i like my toys and like them loaded. and i will never feel guilty about it. i have 2 cybertrucks reserved i have not cancelled yet but i am watching the competition closely. i think Tesla needs to focus on cybertruck and put the semi and roadster on the back burner. and give what was promissed. just my opinion.
There is no question (NONE) that Tesla was both the first with a prototype and the first to set a realistic [mass] production date. Sure, Rivian has delivered some hand-built trucks and probably took it in the shorts to do so (as Elon said for delivering hand-built Cybertrucks). There is no question in my mind that Tesla has the best control over the supply chain for batteries, and the best overall drivetrain designs and performance. I recently saw the Chevy Silverado EV and I have to say I really like a lot of the features. Enough to throw $100 their way. But I am still committed to the Cybertruck. I guess I reserved the Silverado in a moment of weakness (I have had several of late). So to answer your question, I do not think that anyone will actually beat Tesla with mass production, no matter what they say or show. I do agree that the competition has been watching and adding features that the predecessors had, so each one looks better than the last. We 'know' that Elon will deliver features at pricepoint because that is who he is. I have zero faith that the other auto makers can, or will, do the same.

It is? I’m curious what trucks you think look futuristic compared to the Tesla.

Is it the Silverado design language straight out of the Avalanche from the 1990s? The low cargo capacity on the Rivian and the Silverado? The 230 mile range on the F150?

I just don’t see how any of these trucks look more futuristic than the Cybertruck.

There is exactly 1 truck on the market—The Rivian R1T—it was launched a full year ahead of the Cybertruck. The Ford F-150 Lightning is on track to be launched 3-6 months ahead of the Cybertruck (and they don’t seem capable of building more than a 100 per week). I guess I don’t see how much has changed. GM and Ram are likely hitting the streets well after the Cybertruck.

As far as I know of, there are 2 major changes. 4 wheel steering and quad motor configuration. Oh… door handles which are likely a cost *saving* measure.

We have no idea how or if these changes are going to affect pricing.

No worries, the Cybertruck is top of Tesla’s priority sheet right now… well second, right after Model Y production.
I and others suspect that 4-wheel steering and quad are also cost-saving measures, but they are useful features none the less.

I think first to 100,000 units shipped is a much more interesting metric to think about. Even first to 50,000. Getting to 100,000 first is almost no-brained for Tesla, getting to 50k first? I also think will go to Tesla in spite of the later start.

Everything you just said is a guess. I’ve had my reservations the day after the reveal. Damn I’m waiting so long I have saved enough cash to pay cash, I’m just getting bored with it.
A guess? Look at the eta for the other ev trucks..... 2023 and 2024 and nothing firm .... insurance is based on safety and the driver and the CT will be the safest truck out there.

I too am bored and annoyed waiting around endlessly for my CT. But this is probably the worst period of the entire process. We've had no official news in ages, and even what we thought we knew about the CT from 2019 has been called into question. So yeah, I get it. This sucks.

All of that is about to go away. Either on the Q4 earnings call, or soon thereafter. We won't even remember how bored and disaffected we were in early January 2022. Instead we will all be super excitedly watching the new CT website, configurator, promo videos, media reviews, etc.

We'll get there. It will be worth it.

It is first to 194,416. All others are just a number.

This thread is a bit silly IMO.

The competition? Overpriced, under spec'd and even if there is some "mass" production before CT, once production of the CT ramps Tesla will quickly surpass their production volume. There will be way more CTs on the road at that point.

Everytime I think about owning another EV because it "looks promising" I think about how Tesla is the only one proven to deliver OTA, have the supercharger network and so on. I don't think any other manufacturer will match Tesla's software capabilities for some time, it's too hard to build out a truly world class software organization. The software is so critical in these cars.

Honorable mention to Rivian who seems to have done a good job, suspiciously similar to Tesla's.

Exactly!

I waited for my Model 3 for 19 months while watching production hell and delay after delay. I was so close to throwing in the towel and picking up Motor Trends car of The Year for 2017 ? the Chevy Bolt...

Today I barely remember the agonizing wait. Thank goodness I didn't buy the car that possibly could have burned down my house.

My Delorean is 40 years old and it still looks like it’s from the future. The CT has that same cachet and will be turning heads forever.

Stainless is easily repaired, although the methods are different. Insurance cost is often above average for Teslas, but I can and will get Tesla Insurance.

Not so sure. Delorean turns heads because it’s unique as much as anything. Cybertruck will likely be super common fairly quickly. We’ll see.

Our rates for our Model Y aren’t bad at all. I’m debating whether Tesla insurance will be worth it. I like to drive fast and twisty roads.
