  1. Rivian Rollover

I have an R1T and have noticed major oversteer when near lock while using the highest two suspension settings. This is no surprise, most people that have lifted trucks notice this due to altered front end geometry from stock. I had the same thing in my lifted 2500HD. I will say, the Rivianā€™s...
  2. Cybertruck Body Prototype Casting spied uncovered!! šŸ˜²

The only difference between 2 rear casings and 1 are the cost and manufacture time. They would essentially be the same strength, one casting would just be quicker/cheaper.
  3. Cybertruck Body Prototype Casting spied uncovered!! šŸ˜²

Model Y went from 2 rear castings to 1 to get production going early. Maybe they are doing the same with the Cybertruck? Start production with 2 castings with the available presses and once the big mama is available go to a single casting. Also, it would be very tough to cast this as pictured...
  4. Cybertruck Body Prototype Casting spied uncovered!! šŸ˜²

Looks 100% legit to me. I find it interesting how much space there is between the two rear frame rails. It is also missing the typical cross-members you would expect. It is painted so I think theyā€™d be installed at this step in manufacturing. So this brings up the question, whatā€™s going to...
  5. Lets talk 4680

The fact that Panasonic is moving forward with the 4680 would suggest that the 4680 is absolutely viable. They have obviously had their best engineers look at the technology and commit to moving forward with it. So i have no donā€™ 4680 is good tech. I just think mass production of the 4680 is...
  6. Lets talk 4680

Yeah, I agree. I donā€™t expect a 2170 Cybertruck. If the 4680 isnā€™t ready then production will simply be delayed. It obviously doesnā€™t make sense for Tesla to manufacture a 2170 Model Y at Berlin/Austin for 3-6 months then switch over to the 4680. If 2170 Model Ys roll of these assembly lines...
  7. Regular cab cybertruck

If Tesla had an extended cab then they could even dedicate the lower half of the extended cab to a Rivian-style utility tunnel since there would no longer be room for rear seats. Or even better for a tradesman, a pull out tool box. Maybe even recess the tunnel on both sides so thereā€™s room for...
  8. Regular cab cybertruck

I think a ā€œking cabā€ or extended cab Cybertruck could be a popular option. Basically the bed would extend half way into the back half of the cab. This would give you an 8ā€™ bed and a bit of area behind the front seats to store tools and other junk. The wheelbase would remain the same and even...
  9. Lets talk 4680

Unfortunately, I am not as bullish on the availability of the 4680 compared to a year ago. Three months ago Tesla said they are 12-18 months away from volume production of the 4680. So, best case scenario is April 2022, worst case is July 2022. This may also be overly optimistic on Teslaā€™s...
  10. Actual finish of stainless steel exoskeleton?

If stainless steel is contaminated by mild steel it will rust. Even simply dragging a steel object across the surface of stainless steel could be enough to contaminate it. Banging an iron pan around in a stainless kitchen sink could lead to rust. If your kitchen knives are high quality...
  11. I Think Cybertruck Manufacturing Run Will be Short Lived

And if they can shear the stainless on the Starship then a blank stamping press die would be no problem.
  12. I Think Cybertruck Manufacturing Run Will be Short Lived

That is a good point, they are already cutting/stamping parts for the Starship. Since the shapes in the Starship are pretty basic I would imagine they are using some sort of CNC shear/brake/roll for these. The CNC cuts and contours the sheet all on one machine.
  13. I Think Cybertruck Manufacturing Run Will be Short Lived

Heavy Gauge Press Here is a 4000 ton press, they say they can accommodate blanks up to 72ā€ x 100ā€ and the capacity is up to 5/8ā€ steel plate (maybe 5/16ā€ stainless?). There is a video on the page thatā€™s shows it in action. A press this size could likely stamp all of the parts needed for the...
  14. I Think Cybertruck Manufacturing Run Will be Short Lived

Also, hardening is a very general term. In regards to the Cybertruck I believe they are referring to cold rolled hardening. This is different than what most think of in regards to hardened steel. The term ā€œhardened steelā€ almost always refers to tempered steel. Usually this involves...
  15. I Think Cybertruck Manufacturing Run Will be Short Lived

I reference mild steel because that is what is most common, you see it everywhere. If a machine can process 1/2ā€ mild steel then it can typically handle about 1/4ā€ 304L stainless. To estimate capabilities you can use mild steel as a reference just halve it to estimate the machines capabilities...
