I made a service appointment to see if they can add that extra slat in my tonneau since I have a 2024 model and water pours in every time I go through the car wash. I even included a video showing the water pouring in and simply requested if I could take advantage of that service bulletin and have them add the slat according to the bulletin to help with the water however they want to charge me $225 for it. Has anyone experienced this or been able to have it done for no charge?

The bulletin states:

"On some Cybertruck vehicles, when the tonneau cover is closed, the tonneau slat water management channel is exposed, which under certain environmental conditions, may cause excessive water to enter the cargo bed."

Correction per the bulletin: Upon customer complaint of an exposed water management channel or excessive water entering the cargo bed, inspect the vehicle and, if symptoms are present, install an additional slat into the tonneau cover (Service Manual procedure: Slat System - Tonneau (Rework) (Modify), Correction Code 1120122007).

Appreciate advice from anyone who has been able to get this done free of charge.

There was a repair I needed a while ago (seat belt restraint error) that I thought should have been covered under warranty. But then the estimate came and it implied I was going to have to pay. I asked the service center rep about it and they said the estimate is added first and if the repair is determined to be covered by warranty, they won't charge for it. Sure enough for that repair, it was covered. I suppose for some repairs, it's can be either a defect that they will cover, or they may decide that you did something abnormal and it's not covered.

They will say “its just an estimate, you are not being charged” do not approve the estimate. explain the water ingress and the exposed water management channel, reference the service bulletin and that the correction code should match the one on the bulliten. They likely have you in for some kind of diagnostic code that auto defaults to customer pay.

I had it done last week. I'd sent in a photo of the water management slat showing when I set up the appointment and the inital estimate was $0 along with the final charge.

If the water ingress is on the back window the slat will not be the solution. It is the weather sealing between roof and applique. Just a note from someone that went in 3 times before they finally addressed it under warranty.

lots of threads about this. most of us got it done and it does not fix your leaking problem if your problem is water running down the rear window.

if thats your issue, it can be solved by sealing the joint between the glass and the aerocover. the tonneau slat issue is the next joint rearward. there are also many solutions and diy fixes for that. there is no tesla official fix.

search the forum for “backer rod” and it will get you to the pertinent threads

Slat is only half of it, it is the seal (terrible from factory) that causes most of the problem.
People have done a bunch of DIY to varying success.

Big O rotates my tires for free. If you have one near you it might be worth looking into.

[UPDATE] my Tesla service appointment was today and they did indeed add the additional slat and confirm no additional charge even though I accepted the $225 service fee. They did waive it and gave me zero issues. Thank you everyone for suggesting that’s what will likely happen. Looking very forward to no more waterfalls in the bed every time I go through the car wash.
