Epic 280 Mile FSD 14.3.2 Road Trip from NJ to MA with Zero Interventions

It's so good now...except navigation. You won't save 1 min avoiding the left turn on a light by taking the unprotected left turn a block away onto the super busy road which will result in us waiting 8 minutes for a risky opening. Just check what Google Maps or Apple Maps would have done....and do that. Dont try to be clever.

Not sure what to tell you, even versions before 14.2 were solid for me for primarily highway driving including taking interchanges and entering parking lots along with traffic lights/stop sign intersections.

Sometimes my wife tries to become the backseat driver when she thinks FSD isn't getting over into the exit lane soon enough and gets nervous but I just tell her to watch and be amazed. Invariably it merges smoothly into the exit lane with room to spare and she is like .

Had I followed her advice and manually gotten into the exit lane sooner she would have been convinced that FSD was screwing up. That's why I have to let FSD do it, to show her it's not screwing up. To be clear, I'm not convinced it's not screwing up either, but I'm curious how it will handle it. I do recall one time, many months ago, I had to do a last minute take-over and thread the needle but that is not common.

the exit lane shift behavior should match the desired profile. For me, it merges way too late into an exit lane. I had an occasion last year (pre 14.2) where I let it do it's thing, it tried to merge too late, and ended up missing the exit. On my return trip from Boston it missed the fourth turn on my trip to enter the highway, was just in the wrong lane and never corrected. GPS in cities will tall building isn't perfect and the vision system didn't catch the error. I manually looped around the block, took the exit and it was smooth sailing for 200+ miles until I exited for lunch and restrooms.

I still find it a little unnerving when you know you need to be in the right lane to exit, the truck tells you "exit ahead in a 1/2 mile" and yet the truck still doesn't even attempt to move into the exiting lane until there is a 1/4 mile left in which case it sometimes cuts people off. It will get better.

I only use FSD for longer travel days, but per the truck I'm at ~1,000 miles on FSD vs. 1,500 total miles travelled since 14.2 launched. That seems about right.

Very encouraging feedback. I really appreciate it. If they still allowed the 24hr demos I would be able to test out from Memphis dealer but unfortunately only 30 minutes. I work with spine surgeons all day so having the ability to FSD and relax on the commute would be a game changer. Half of the commute would be 55mph-65mph on Hwys with minimal lights and the last 100 miles would be I-55 going 70mph. Sounds like the only concern would be December-March with winter temperatures and winds. Would eventually switch to BFG KO3 once the Pirellis are unsafe. So FSD on standard or conservative and I would likely arrive with 30-50 miles which would give me some miles for errands after work prior to charging overnight. How's phantom draining and braking with the CT? It was common with my prior Teslas

I've learned if I"m parking for an extended period of time to park where there will be the least traffic and it ends up closer to 2-3% per day.

EAP was unusable on my 2019 Model X due to phantom braking.

Drain is negligible, 1-2% per day when not in use. One modifier here is if you park in a busy parking lot and have sentry mode on you can suck down 5-6% per day with all the event triggers as people walk/drive past the truck.

I've learned if I"m parking for an extended period of time to park where there will be the least traffic and it ends up closer to 2-3% per day.

Have you noticed a significant drop in range below 30 degrees? My previous two Teslas would plummet in temperatures below 40 driving same route and speeds

Do you think companies like T Sporline and Munro Delta wheels make more efficient rims or just marketing?

I forget my charge, something like 20-90% so the pack was nice and hot after charging. Efficiency tends to be better when the electrons can flow more freely which seems to occur at higher ambient temps and certainly at higher pack temps.

Last week drove from Boca Raton Florida to Long Island New York over 1250 miles with no issues via FSD. Unbelievable drive much more relaxing and FSD takes the edge off. Truck did everything and backed into Tesla charging station as well. Crazy technology. Truly out of this world. Really looking forward to seeing what Tesla does next with this technology. Made this trip many times over the years withoutand this capability is a game changer.

Sub-freezing battery temps definitely negatively impact range.
