I would be willing to bet that the majority of people who are interested in Baja racing and NASCAR realize that these are not vehicle's pulled right off the dealer lots.. I mean.. this is pretty much what professional racing is. There are very few events where the vehicles are run bone stock...
What are you talking about? They pretty explicitly had Brenthel build a tube chassis then they added the hub motors and battery/drivetrain tech on their own.. they never said it was a 100% lordstown endurance.
They also pretty explicitly stated the goal was not to win, it was to gather test...
Honestly.. I would rather mine have the 2170's... why you ask?? They are proven tech now. However.. as said earlier.. I think it was designed around the new cells and it wont go into production until they have enough.
Found out they made it 152 miles before they had to call it.. Little Toyota with leaf tech did great! they had been swapping packs versus trying to re charge like Lordstown.
I have to say.. a lot of people talking crap about lordstown.. but I didn't see any other OEM's out there with EV's? They...
Mad respect for them ACTUALLY doing it.. even if they were clearly ill prepared.. I hope they can get back out there next year. They clearly just didn't have do adequate testing.
However.. for anyone who actually watched the race.. how did the Home built Toyota 4runner do?!?!? I cant find any...
They had to call Tesla to find out how to put out the fire. So no they didn't know how. Small town fire department responded to this. My Brother in law was one of the Paramedics who responded. He said the Woods caught on fire to so they spent a lot of time trying to control that.
If you jump...
How do we know its a bad idea though.. That seems like just an assumption. I have never seen it done and I believe that's purely because mainstream electric motors have made it possible. We will find out soon enough!
They are indeed heavy, I still love new technology and would be open to the idea. Aptera is also going to use HUB motors as well as some other EV platform makers like the recently announced REE and Magna partnership. Keep in mind the assembly does also contain the braking system.

Excited to see this compete!
Looks like they are competing in their own Class. Hopefully this will fill up some next year! At this point it would be cool just to see them complete the race.
Does anyone else watch this and have the stranger things theme song playing in your head and picture the Russians building the factory to open a portal to the upside down... Just me?
