  1. Musk: "Cybertruck pricing and specs will be different, but it will be a damn fine product."

I originally reserved a Tri-Motor. Which rumor has it will be side stepped initially and instead we will be offered a Quad. A Quad at $130K would not be of interest to me. I would have been happy to buy a Tri at $80,000. Good news though. Despite being up on the reservation list, I don't...
  2. Musk: "Cybertruck pricing and specs will be different, but it will be a damn fine product."

Agreed. The CyberTruck has well over 1 million prospective buyers on the waiting list. Supply & Demand can affect pricing. The Rivian is now well into the $80,000 range. Ford Lightning Lariat and Platinum are over $80,000. Tesla has raised the price of the Model Y several times over the...
  3. Musk: "Cybertruck pricing and specs will be different, but it will be a damn fine product."

I have been saying for a year now prices would be much higher. Those guesses you have suggested, seem to be reasonable. Price of Lightning Lariat is about $80,000+. Price of a Rivian with the 300 mile range battery Adventure package is $85,000+ So a Tri-Motor (which we are not even sure Tesla...
  4. Unless a new class of buyer joins, there will not be many takers at $85k+ for a pickup

You have valid points. Which is echo-ed by what Elon said....there is a price cliff - at some point. Maybe it is $75K. Maybe it is $85K. Or Maybe it is $95K. Point is, only a small % of buyers can or will plunk down $85,000+ for an EV pickup, let alone any vehicle. How many Hummers...
  5. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Yes it could. IF what Elon promised/alluded to about the Cybertruck comes to fruition. Elon said the Tri-motor would have a range of 500 miles, be virtually bulletproof, go 0-60 in 3 seconds and charge on the Tesla network. If Tesla can build that vehicle and sell it for less than $89,,000...
  6. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

In theory Tesla is capable of more production than 150,000 CyberTrucks the first full year...but I am factoring in "unknown delays". Whether that is battery constraints, a glitch in the casting process, lack of the ability to hire more workers, Putin dropping a plane on Turkey.....something wonky.
  7. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

It is not a Tesla vs a Ford thing. Who delivers the most pickups doesn't matter. PS What is this Wolverine thing? Will that take place of my Tri-Motor that I reserved?!? PSS I am somewhat skeptical about how many CyberTrucks Tesla can deliver by the end of 2024....we shall see....my guess...
  8. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

That 2 millionth reservation won't see their CT until probably 2027-28. Ford stopped taking reservations for the Lightning when they got close to 200,000. That was the smart thing to do. Tesla should have thought about capping CT reservations at probably 300,000. It doesn't help the...
  9. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

There was a pandemic, absolutely true. But Tesla cranked out a LOT of Model Ys and Model 3s during the pandemic, so they seemed to manage through the pandemic well when it came to manufacturing. In fact, Tesla rocked it. Ford announced the Lightning in 2021, and yep, they are delivering a...
  10. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Your timeline estimate seems realistic. I sadly thought when I place my CT reservation November 2019 that I would have my Cybertruck by the end of 2022. I now don't know when it might be. I think very few deliveries will happen in 2023. With a slow ramp in 2024, so yeah, I might get mine...
  11. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

    a) the media is sad these days. b) Honestly Elon has cried wolf several times about the start of production of the CyberTruck. Tesla fanboys get defensive about when Elon said what. That shouldn't. Elon is awesome, but he did over promise on the when the Cybertruck would be produced...
  12. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

I agree on Stellantis...they are probably not long for the US market. Except for Jeep. Someone is going to figure out how to keep Jeep relevant in the US. Plus EV architecture lends itself nicely to 4 wheel drive. GMs biggest hurdle will be internal. Have lunch with any General Manager of...
  13. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Elon Musk "...manufacturing vehicles is hard..." Tesla is going to grow, and grow. Hopefully my TSLA will too. Yet, IMO they are not going to grow 50% a year forever. Again, IMO, I think it will take awhile for Tesla to get to 5 million vehicles delivered in the US. And 10 million is...
  14. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Ford doesn't have to "compete" with Tesla. BEV (before EVs) Ford competed against Nissan, BMW, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Toyota, etc etc. Now that EVs are taking up about 5% of the US market, and headed to 10%, Ford is still competing against all those other companies, plus Tesla. Ford does...
  15. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

A bit of the confusion is that the plan with the GigaTexas factory was to use 4680s for vehicles built there. And they anticipated GigaTexas, which started construction June 2020, to be finished before the end of the 2021. Thus the ass-u-mption was that by Jan 2022 all the GigaTexas...
  16. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

What was the ramp schedule? I thought it was to start manufacturing them within a year of Battery Day (at least test batches) and then the schedule was to put 4680s into every vehicle built at GigaTexas. That was what I heard. (Of course there has been several re-adjustments to timelines...
  17. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Who is "we"? There definitely is a "concern" of having sufficient supply of 4680's in 2023. At least at the beginning of the year. Elon said it was taking longer at Austin than they anticipated. And, what is telling is that LG Chem, Panasonic, CATL, etc are not promising any 4680s anytime...
  18. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

You are right, 4680 production is / has been way slow. There can’t be any significant Cybertruck deliveries until they get that figured out. And it appears none of the outside suppliers of 4680s are ramping any faster than Tesla either. Let’s hope by year end we hear that someone is producing...
  19. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Ford can't produce 200,000 Lightnings (yet), so they thought it would be dumb to take more reservations than they can build. It is true Tesla is kicking everyone's butt on profitability per vehicle, there is no debating that. On the otherhand, Ford has been building and selling vehicles for...
  20. Musk Expects Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023 [Per Q2 Earnings Call]

Easy. Once the # of pre-orders hit over 250,000, they could have made plans to cap the # of reservations. Ford did exactly that....on the fly they decided to stop taking reservations.
