May not be the same stainless alloy... Most likely not be the same thickness on the inner... or it may not be hardened using the same process... Just spitballing here but that would be my guess...
This is a BS take. Yeah the price hike sucks, but if they can get the strength and stiffness they need from 1.8mm steel, why add additional weight for no reason? It can already take a hit from a sledgehammer without denting and stop a 9mm round... That not strong enough now?
Really only matters when you are looking at transceivers that are in the 40, 100+Gb range. 1Gb, less so. 1Gb transceivers are cheap as hell now too. I do wonder if the fiber itself is more susceptible to shock and vibration loads over time.
Not sure why people in this thread are treating the lack of 3mm steel as a negative. If they are able to get all the strength they need from their 1.8mm SS alloy, then why would they add the extra weight for no extra benefit? Is being able to stop a 9mm round not strong enough for you guys? WTH?
I was only shooting for a dual motor anyway... so the 340mi range is just fine with me, and in line with the announcement specs. Just wish the price was a little closer to the announcement price.
