My guess: it’s perfectly legal…but the vehicle may no longer be lawful to sell.
A surprising number of laws derive their authority from the constitution granting government power to regulate commerce. Remember, every authority not explicitly granted to the government is reserved to the states...
This is a good idea. My GPS unit started to malfunction because the plastic mount failed (it lives inside the camera housing). I bet everything in there will fail when exposed to direct sunlight for too long (in sunny dry places).
According to the video, while going down hill and approaching a cliff, he lost all braking ability and therefore he chose to turn the vehicle suddenly to avoid death by involuntary cliff jumping.
It is possible he accidentally did something to cause the brakes to stop functioning (example: unrecognized physical damage to the mechanical brakes and reliance on inductive breaking which only works when there is a place to store energy), which of course is still a potentially lethal product...
I would never trust the glue to hold. I’ve had it done twice. And it failed twice.
That said, in theory, the glue should hold really really well. I imagine that the tape is much easier to apply correctly in practice (and I am guessing in theory the tape should be able to do the job on its own)...
I’m glad his defective tesla didn’t kill him. But choosing to kill the vehicle or be killed isn’t a friendly position for a car company to put its customers in.
Maybe leave AC on a bit after exiting vehicle? Something needs to be done to lower humidity…definitely have to kill the air recycling feature for it to work optimally.
I think that’s by design. They had to borrow a lot of money to put in superchargers. In 10 years after that’s paid off they’ll have better range and lower power draw to make a better product rather than provide a subsidy to the charging network.
I feel like a need a towing course…
I also feel like Tesla needs to learn how to save power better. Like some sort of computer-not battery that doesn’t go dead right away.
Made it home.
Learned a few things:
1) low power mode can be activated in the phone app, not just in the car.
2) low power mode doesn’t fix the massive power drain bug following Tesla posting an update. Stay off advanced updates before parking at the airport!!!!
3) force quitting the Tesla...
This clearly fits the design aesthetic of the CT…and surprisingly well. Not just any real welder can do this…it takes creativity as well as craft to make something like this…or I guess a ridiculously good set of plans!
I think it’s abundantly clear they chose poorly for this part. But they’ll learn and adapt and someday roll it into an ever improving product, presumably.
Signing out seems to be the durable almost fix for the phantom power drain bug following Tesla posting a software update. Only lost 2% overnight. This still, of course, means they have an unfixed bug or two but being able to defend against Tesla incompetence by signing out is a welcome bug work...
