Well, incompetence is a bit better than outright lying, I guess :-)
Tbh the prices were a big part of the appeal, as they spoke of mass market targets. Certainly the manufacturing model and interior all speak 'volume'. The prices don't, though, so it's all a bit confusing and the delivery event...
Steer by wire with no mechanical backup is absolutely not an improvement. The jury is still out on whether variable steering is an improvement too. Top Gear mentioned not getting used to it even after 2 days. Really the only reviewer I really trust these days is Teslabjorn. He doesn’t suck up to...
In the Top Gear article, Lars Moravy, VP of Engineering, seems to strongly hint that it will not come to Europe. The reason being that apparently European regulations require corner radius for edges to be such that is not possible with thick stainless steel...
It's interesting that when he bangs the bonnet, the sound is much 'thinner' than what seems to come from the doors. That would confirm suspicions that the bonnet metal is thinner so as to provide a crumple zone and maybe, just maybe, help with European pedestrian regulations.
It was indeed one of the most anticlimactic events ever, given all the hype. It was embarrassing and difficult to watch, including the faffing around with 'oh there's another one..?'. It was like some clueless slightly drunk idiot was thrown on stage after having 2 minutes earlier being briefed...
You do realise Jeremy hasn’t been involved with TG for years? And actually they are much more positive towards Tesla these days. Even the old crew is (and, to be honest, even the old clips were kind of entertaining in a provocative way — which is sort of the point with them).
Well Jeep is coming out with the Recon next year. Not quite bare bones and probably pricey but a step in the right direction. They’ve said they’ll do a Wrangler BEV too. They started selling their first full EV, the Avenger, outside the US. Is kind of nice but no offroad beast.
I think a lot of the pressure on EV sales is due to other manufacturers not being able to keep prices competitive. EVs are more expensive and with interest rates high and the economy globally facing challenges, that’s not good for the priciest of EVs. Many manufacturers got blinded by the sudden...
This is excellent news in the sense it means Tesla isn’t completely against having Cybertrucks outside the US. Now I’m guessing Canada is an easy one, as it probably follows American regulations and buying patterns quite closely, but it’s a start.
The Cybertruck uses Finnish steel so here next...
I think they are targeting full production for 2025, but with some ramp next year (100K or so). While mathematically it does indeed take years to reach a million from there, that’s assuming everyone on the reservation list makes the purchase as soon as their number is called. Also historically...
Delivery day will soon be upon us. Anyone put together any juicy speculation about availability outside the US? We have seen one driving in Canada, but I believe that was on Californian plates. Before that, New Zealand testing and Mexico, potentially Iceland (or has that been fully debunked?)...
Will be driving past the Tesla store near Helsinki tomorrow. If there’s no Cybertruck on show, there will be consequences.
I will shake my fist angrily at this forum.
