It's really hard to remove or hide scratches in stainless steel panels. More importantly, they're VERY difficult to repair when dented or bent. This is among the worst materials one could choose for a sturdy work or cargo vehicle likely to get dinged constantly.

There are examples of Models 3 and Y with good build quality that came in the middle of some of Tesla's worst quarters of unreliable builds. For that matter, some Models 3 and Y *still* show up with awful panel alignment...
