I was mainly talking about someone deciding between PowerShare or Powerwalls, not someone already committed to both. But until they play nice together, I guess my idea is that if you have an outage that becomes extended, then you would naturally trim back the rate of usage in the house, and...
Probably a minority opinion, but I think it's an either/or situation: if you have a nice solar installation, and Powerwall(s), I don't think that PowerShare adds anything to your capabilities that would be worth anywhere near the expense and complexity. And in the inverse to the above...
Yes. Confirmed PCS2 failure; part not in stock... But free Supercharging now, which is actually pretty convenient for us! (I think that the recent hot weather is finally pushing them that had been holding on over the edge.)
I’ll test it at 5 amps shortly…
It is pretty obvious that these mid-sized cites should definitely have at least SOME Supercharger coverage. We had a similar situation visiting our daughter in Schenectady NY (at least there was some V2 Supercharging, but figure half the already paltry rate because at least half the stalls were...
Not specific to this application, but perhaps as an easier way to break in, I have been having great success with adapter cables which have USB C on one end, and a barrel connection on the other end with a pre-defined voltage, such as 12VDC or 18VDC. This has allowed me to leave behind the 120...
The FS CB with an efficient tire and wheel configuration should have an original range of 320 miles I believe, and with the 122.7 kWh battery you can calculate that you should be using 384 Wh/mi, but in real world driving (highway and local), my own experience shows that you need to discount the...
The Cybertruck has the equivalent of around 9 Powerwalls of energy available. (It can’t provide as much power (watts) at once as the Powerwalls do, but that’s a completely different thing.) The system would take power from the Cybertruck when there is a severe peak in energy demand on the...
Probably unrelated to your issue, but to keep your expectations in line with "the rules" and what a Tesla Wall Connector will probably allow: "For a 60-amp breaker, the maximum continuous current (running 3+ hours) is 48 amps, based on the National Electrical Code (NEC) 80% rule (60A x 0.80) for...
The enhanced light sensitivity of cameras is a for sure thing. Sometimes pro golf matches on TV will go on past sunset, and the people at home can see what is going on just fine, but in person it is so dark that it is barely playable, and sometimes they will actually cut the camera over to...
One problem with an otherwise impeccable install: you can't run a refrigerator in an unvented space and expect it to get cooler and stay cooler. (In a little while, the air in the remaining airspace in the frunk will get very warm, eventually making its way through the cooler insulation, in a...
Passenger EVs with range extenders
If you have to stop, it is simply recharging, not extending the driving range (since you must cease driving to do it).
I'm not sure that "range extender" is the correct term for this set-up, given that it unfortunately can't be used while in motion, whereas most available ones (or even unavailable ones, like the cancelled Tesla one) could. But it would clearly be a nice "mobile charger" as well as mobile solar...
Our Foundation Series CT came with 340 mile range on the Core Wheels. Staying under 75 mph will confidently get you the promised range, or quite close. Assuming fairly flat terrain. See the attached photo for recent and lifetime results:
I have the PowerShare installed. What actually IS nice is that it integrates fine with pre-existing solar, whereas the solar previously de-activated when the utility power went down, which was exactly the wrong time to lose that power. The NEMA 14-50 solution might work too with solar, or not...
We completely a 3000 mile trip recently, with some overnight charges to 100%. It definitely seems to have improved the mileage calibration, as the range I checked a minute ago at 25% said 83 miles, or 332 implied at 100% (Foundation AWD A.S. tires.) Better than before the trip.
A potential issue is that anyone in the vehicle can give commands, including kids and even bad actors. Or, Grok could interpret something that’s part of a normal conversation between people as a command, as it sometimes does now. So the full list of possible voice actions would have to be...
