Interestingly, mine too is inconsistent. Sometimes the "one button press" works but more often I must press the brake pedal and select direction to go before I can engage.

Absolutely correct -- a remarkable upgrade! Except, unfortunately, for the lack of control over speed by "the supervisor" when appropriate!

Interestingly I just entered a Service Request regarding this and got the response that this is "expected behavior". I've attached a file showing the screenshot of their response. I have a 2023 Model Y LR and unless there has been a recent change to its software, I've not had to reset FSD each...
