I’m not sure about NJ, but in Texas you have to pay tax (6.25%) on the full purchase price of the vehicle for a lease. If you buyout the vehicle during or at the end of the lease you have to pay tax again on whatever the residual value is.
Thanks for posting this. I wish this was an option for me as a way of taking advantage of the tax credit without qualifying for it, but having to pay sales tax on both the purchase price and the residual value in Texas negates any of that benefit.
