  1. Engineering Explained: F-150 better than Cybertruck for towing duty (over distance)

I don’t see how a large travel trailer and a CT are practical at all. Imho we would spend as much screwing around with expensive solutions in trailers to simply buy a used tow vehicle like a 2000’s full size. I’ve been thru trying to engineer a “perfect” solution so many times I shudder at the...
  2. Rumor: There will be no single motor Cybertruck! RWD model will be dual motor.

I’m not familiar with the axle configuration, but the competition is moving towards one motor per wheel, so Id expect Tesla to eventually be a bonkers version of one per wheel. I preordered dual motor awd but honestly when it comes time I’m probably going tri motor and dumping two of my current...
  3. Hummer EV Pickup Teaser Video. Cybertruck rival?

I was suspicious of the torque claim and it turns out the real torque number for the H1 electric is probably around 800. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a30729376/hummer-ev-torque-explained/
  4. Musk on Cybertruck: It's better than people realize... they don’t have enough information to realize its awesomeness

I'll be too serious and reply to your funny comment: If you look at all of musks ventures, they're all appropriate for Mars Colonization. He has spacecraft, solar panels, batteries, tunneling equipment, autonomous programming, etc. He is friendly with Mars promoting scientists, has stated he...
  5. Cybertruck vs F-150 Ownership Cost Comparison

You're correct on this to an extent. I dont think anyone realistically expects to use a CT for repeated long distance towing, or if they do they're able to tolerate a much higher level of bother than I am. However if I were to use my CT for local towing...which I do almost every single...
  6. Vault and water?

There is a caveat to the water tight claim. It's going to need rubber gaskets where it hits the tailgate, and internal drains along the rails where the tonneau slides. That will never be perfectly water tight, you will always have some moisture in there when you open the tailgate. You can look...
  7. Versatility? This ain't a truck.

The Avalanche was visually similar, also had a complicated cargo bed and expensive toys that prevented you from loading it with cement blocks. It was also pitched as a lifestyle vehicle with a quad sitting in the back and family/utility use. Basically my opinion about that comparison is based on...
  8. Versatility? This ain't a truck.

The tech on board a Tesla is far more forward than your wifes corolla. There are thousands of youtube videos of people showing off the capability of their Tesla on board Android based computing. Tesla's update their code wirelessly, so your vehicle improves over time without visiting the dealer...
  9. Engineering Explained: F-150 better than Cybertruck for towing duty (over distance)

Seems like a lot of work to make the CT a little better at something that it's going to struggle to be good at. With respect to the Semi, if they're self driving and set up like a network, it would be easy to have a charged tractor waiting for the trailer to be dropped off by a discharged tractor.
  10. Engineering Explained: F-150 better than Cybertruck for towing duty (over distance)

Park the extra batteries in a trailer under the floor. That way when you hook up your CT to your trailer you get twice the battery to offset the extra weight.
  11. Engineering Explained: F-150 better than Cybertruck for towing duty (over distance)

It's the refueling in the kind of places people take vacation trailers. There is nothing predictable about cross country travel , I once drove through a tornado strike across the expressway just minutes after it happened as an example....within half an hour it was a parking lot that lasted all...
  12. Cybertruck vs F-150 Ownership Cost Comparison

IIRC Tesla said the CT will be a medium duty vehicle classification comparable to an F-250. I know the chart is from early in the process, but I expect by the time the CT ships it will cost more but will still compare very favorably to a comparably equipped ford F-250.
  13. Engineering Explained: F-150 better than Cybertruck for towing duty (over distance)

Skip to the end to avoid two paragraphs of exposition on why I have my opinon......lol. IMHO as a guy who tows several different trailers weekly, and who usually has a utility trailer behind me about half the work day, you should not buy the CT if your life is trailer heavy unless Tesla makes a...
  14. Trying to get ahead of delivery -- home charger questions

Great idea! my normal KWh is 11 cents. If theyd discount that to close to yours I might buy an electric before the CT is ready.
  15. Trying to get ahead of delivery -- home charger questions

Whats the formula for figuring out how much a full charge would cost? Something where i can plug in my local KWH charge.
  16. Repairing a Crashed Exterior

I guess the question is why worry about it? It’ll be insured for at least five years if you’re smart, so let the insurance company worry about it. By the time it’s anyone’s individual problem the shops will have a strategy that the insurance will pay for.
  17. Musk confirms: HVAC in bed vault, probably bed access from second row, partial bio-defense mode

that other guy says it’s too heavy though. ? let’s say you send 50 CTs I’m packing crates with all the spare space filled with other mars bound items...... that’s more CTs than Mars will need for a while.
  18. Musk confirms: HVAC in bed vault, probably bed access from second row, partial bio-defense mode

Sorry, but Elon musk who actually makes the decision whether or not to put a cyber truck into a rocket and shoot it in any direction has already said that he wants to see a cyber truck driving on Mars. So possibly 20 years from now he’s going to stick one on his latest model rocket for a...
  19. Musk confirms: HVAC in bed vault, probably bed access from second row, partial bio-defense mode

Tye Chevy Avalanche has a complicated mid gate with a window. The whole contraption folds down into the floor with the back seats stowed to create a 96” bed.
