  1. Used Cybertruck to power my house during power outage

After the Great Texas IceApocalypse, I installed a 22 kw Generac natural gas powered backup. Been very happy with it. There is about a 10 second power drop before the backup generator kicks in. If the option had existed to power the home with the PowerShare and the CT, that would have been my...
  2. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

I've had fun taking visiting people from CA and Australia to Buccees. The freak out. Their jaws drop. Same thing with visiting Bass Pro Shops. The scale of these operations is insanely huge. Buccees close to here have a row of Tesla Supercharges by the freeway access road - all the way down the...
  3. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

Thanks. I hoped these would positively contribute to the discussion, instead of divisive. I liked the subtopic of barbecue. On that note, Bludsos in LA is excellent - I used to go there when it was in Compton, and the pitmaster learned in Houston. Now they have a couple of locations on is in...
  4. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

I agree completely. But it's a joke, that's all. There are six videos in all, all make fun of ridiculous stereotypes. There is no narrative of hate.
  5. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

there are really a lot of people from CA moving to TX. Generally the Hondurans coming in at least bring their restaurants and culture, the CA folks, ... well ...
  6. Here's why convenience stores are not rushing to install EV chargers

12v 12v * 200A = 2400 aH. Sorry I noticed I misstated; 200AH is wrong. Well, it makes sense in a way; yes they are "200 hours of one amp at 12v". But not enough sense. So, I wanted 3 days backup 24/7 on a 2A 120v load. Guess what that'd take? 2a * 120v * 72 hours? And the cost of that would...
  7. Here's why convenience stores are not rushing to install EV chargers

Okay. I'm just a guy that has some solar systems in use, like on commercial signs where we didn't want to trench and run 120v wires, ranch gates, other places where my calculations showed that was the best and most cost effective method. Doesn't bother me to use grid power where it makes sense.
  8. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

A comparison metric of what? That is my question. Are you trying to get to a quality of life measure, or something of that sort? GDP/population is not going to do that.
  9. Charging from a Solar-Roof Carport

This is a rehash of a crude form of geothermal heating and cooling of homes, which as I recall never could have worked. The general problem is making the heat transfer efficient enough to be worth doing.
  10. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

I don't have a clue what you are trying to get to by dividing GDP by people. Most of the people I know in CA seem to have far less disposable income, but that's a meaningful measure of the money in someone's hands. But what is your point regardless?
  11. Here's why convenience stores are not rushing to install EV chargers

Perhaps in some cases. But the arguments could also represent full knowledge of system design and thus not be disingenuous. Batteries are expensive; one small system I have has $1000 in a 200Ah 12 Li battery. Another small system was not implemented because the battery system would have made...
  12. Here's why convenience stores are not rushing to install EV chargers

The obvious answer would be to use chemistry, use the solar to provide energy for any of several chemical processes that result in a valuable product. Desalination is one example.
  13. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

Thanks but I'll stick with those numbers for my units for purposes of figuring load during generator operation.
  14. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

Agree, but I'm happy just to visit, not live in your state. Too many authoritarian liberal control freaks, among many other stupid or annoying things. Been a while since I've been up the road to Oxnard seafood.
  15. Make My Roof ALL Solar!

Selling something that might exist tomorrow today is called "vaporware."
  16. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

2A at 120v is pretty typical draw for modern energy-efficient fridges and freezers, so wrong there. 2a * 120V * 24.... re "nothing stopping..." I'll pass on your suggestion but thanks. A system for uploading to grid typically wouldn't have backup batteries, but would have an inverter.
  17. Make My Roof ALL Solar!

(I think I don't have) grandiose illusions on the concept of on-CT solar but there are a couple issues here. (A) I like the surveillance mode option in the Tesla menus, but it seems to eat about 30 miles range for every day it is left on (B) As a 2nd car driven every couple of days, "trickle...
  18. Here's why convenience stores are not rushing to install EV chargers

I'm just curious, what year did you see H welding in class? that is a seriously lost art. Well understood during ww2 as a substitute for acetylene. In recent years as far as I know only used for welding lightweight sheet AL, like for antique aircraft and such.
  19. Here's why convenience stores are not rushing to install EV chargers

I've always found the fascination, and I guess you could use the phrase "faith" in hydrogen use for consumers to be curious, given some understanding of its use with rockets. Somehow I always go back to all the negatives, but others know nothing of the negatives and tout a bunch of supposed...
  20. All Parking Lots with more than 8 spots Should Have Solar Canopies and EV Chargers

Yes I'm on the Texas grid. Without going and looking at the regulations, I'd guess it'd be okay to use Powerwalls. But those are not going to actually help you much in case the grid goes down. For example, not counting the startup surge, just steady running, one 2A load from a refrigerator and...
