30x SS sheet is sold annealed (softer) in rolls. The "L" in the designation refers to a lower carbon content which improves welding.
300 series SS can be work hardened to gain greater strength (tensile/yield).
Some 300 alloys like 301 can be fully hardened while 304/304L can get half hard...
Perhaps the single motor will return as a fleet work truck without the active suspension, carpeting and a smaller battery but with AC outlets and perhaps limited compressed air.
I think the 40k Lightning is configured as such.
But yes, take care of reservation holders then sell the fleet vehicles.
The delay doesn't concern me as much as how many they can produce in a year. My reservation is in the 600000's and I knew it would be 3-5 years out before they contact me. However, if Tesla has newer, grander plans to build half a million CTs per year then they may be calling me in 3-4 years...
Same here! Wife and I discussed this and she asked if I was going to trade in the Y for CT... I glanced at her and noticed impending sadness so I told her she would keep HER car.
Yes I do have a happy life!
I thought early orders were going to some employees. It appears to have taken a few months to install a 6100 gigapress in Austin. Tesla just ordered a 8100 gigipress and the foundation hasn't yet started. It is good that there is some initial production line activity in Fremont for the CT but...
I did. When I saw that 40k price it was apparent that Tesla had better battery tech. So I mentioned it to my wife and asked why I didn't buy TSLA years ago. Anyways I can currently afford about 4 dual CTs.
I am looking forward to battery day.
Roadrunner/battery day...
So much has been leaked and speculated yet Elon still insists we will be dazzled. Perhaps the rate of construction at these gigatera sites is a hint. The technological advance is not just the cars or trucks but the means to automate and exponentially improve all the...
when you get your Tesla they have folks there that show you features correct? I know my wife and I would like an orientation. The Tesla center in Tempe is on a fairly busy road and I would rather get familiar with the features and feel on quiet, familiar roads.
Navigating Austin, then San...
just reading tea leaves and animal entrails... But didn't Elon endure production hell at one point of his life? I wonder if part of the pre-order rational is assessing probable demand. The pre-orders, it can be argued, may be strong out of the gate with Tesla fans etc. but sustaining demand...
such a long trip from Austin to El Paso and beyond. At least there is at least five SC.
Yes, I would do it but spent the night in Ft Stockton, El Paso, and maybe Tucson.
I am sure they have considered their options the past few years and we are slowly becoming aware of the final decision.
BTW, they have made Cybertruck(s) somewhere and may have a fleet that have been used for all types of testing. It may be possible that production issues are being worked out...
304L is good stuff but may not have the ballistic specs of full hard 301. I certainly am not going to care too much as it is more important to solve 99%+ problems than 1% silly problem.
most gigafactory design is probably boilerplate by now. So the time to make a factory in Texas is likely between making it in Germany and China. I notice that Tesla did not waste much time dealing with a school district. The other approvals will probably be quicker.
I think battery day will...
I am intrigued by the SS blanks to make a CT. Typical rolls(coils) of sheet are not too wide and it is not uncommon to see them ship by truck or train. Larger sheet width or plate? it is possible but harder to transport. I think that the CT will not be just one piece of origami but multiple...
Why do reservations at all?
Car/truck companies have new models all the time. They do marketing and build hype about new models relentlessly.
I assume that Tesla is trying to understand demand and probably more important: consumer driven features that they can design in up to the point where...
I told my Wife in June that I was still wanting to put $100 towards a CT and she was surprised I didn't do it last fall and "what are you waiting for?".
She is the smart one of the family.
