I want to tow a race car to a racetrack for weekend fun. I’ll probably get an enclosed trailer to lower drag. Unfortunately the track is 160 miles from my house and there are several mountains in the way so range will be tight with the dual motor.
I think we are talking about 2 different things.
Backing up with a trailer attached is easy enough once you figure out turn right to go left.
Backing up to a trailer (to align the ball hitch) is different and often you need a spotter to tell you when to stop.
I’m hoping Tesla has multiple...
Yes, I brought up the back-in superchargers in another thread. Elon has said that they will be adding more pull-through superchargers, but unless they build huge gas-stations full that isn’t a great answer IMO. Most people towing will have large batteries and need over an hour to charge. If you...
Whether it will have next gen batteries is an important question. Seems like 2-3 years may be when Tesla is ready to sell their improved Li-ion “pouch” battery, and other manufacturers may rolling out solid state batteries.
I’d hate to spend $70K on a huge 200kw-h battery only to have them...
Yes this is my biggest concern as well. It seems Tesla will offer their own trailer with extra battery so my question is which is the better buy? Extra 20K for tri over dual gets you an extra 200 mile range. How much will the battery trailer cost and how much range will that net?
5 minutes sounds pretty good but you also have to find a place in that congested charging station to leave the trailer while you charge.
Also I will be doing this alone so they had better have multiple camera angles showing the hitch to help me line it up...
I didn’t think of how air suspension helps with disconnect etc, but that is still a fairly big pain to have to disconnect every time you need to charge. That takes a 30-min stop and makes it close to an hour. I’d definitely appreciate it if they would add a charging port near the front that...
I’ve noticed that in most cases Teslas need to back in to superchargers because the port is in the back and the cord is very short.
The CT appears to also have the port in the back which will be problematic if it is towing a trailer.
Pull-through superchargers would be really nice but I don’t...
NEMA 14-50 would be good, and hopefully more RV parks will be installing these as EVs start towing. For the time being I think most parks only have 120V which will take days to fully charge the battery
yeah I think an extra battery is the idea behind the Tesla trailer that they teased. Definitely something I’m interested in because towing causes me range anxiety that I wouldn’t otherwise have. I ordered the 2-motor so it’ll be interesting to see how much a trailer costs and how much extra...
