Now the obvious change over the pickup version is that you give up the functionality of the bed for a bigger interior cabin, and ideally, you use that extra cabin space for a third row.

There are not many electric vehicle options with a third row. Tesla offers some of them, but it starts around at least $115,000 for the Model X, and as for the Model Y, the size of the third row is pretty laughable.

A Tesla Cybertruck SUV could potentially have up to nine seats thanks to the deployable middle seat in the front row and how you handle the third row. And based on the Cybertruck platform, it could potentially be offered at a much cheaper price point than the Model X – making it an interesting new entry in the all-electric vehicles with third rows’ market.

Would make an interesting conversation piece. A little R1S action with seating for 9.

Honestly I'd rather it be some 10-15" taller, maybe even a bit longer, and a van. It could be on the same platform, but I think as soon as you ditch the wedge shape, you might as well use the volume properly seeing the aerodynamics will be just as bad around the rear.

Anything is possible. However, I doubt Tesla will build it. They’re very strategic about the models they’ve created:
  • Sports car
  • Luxury Sedan
  • Minivan
  • Economy Sedan
  • SUV crossover
  • Semi Truck
  • Pickup Truck

That covers a majority of the market. A 3-row CT would cannibalize X and Y.

I have no insight into the next model Tesla is planning, but their most immediate need is for a robotaxi.

I thought so before, but if the leaked body design is accurate (I think it’s either legit or a good mock up), it’s very unlikely. If you look at the beta body, it’s pretty clear the passenger cage ends at the back of the second row. It’s possible the bulkhead behind the 2nd row is a structural piece. It is almost certainly adding to the strength of the passenger cage.

And yes, it’s totally unofficial and entirely possibly faked, but now that I’ve seen this and thought about how the passenger cage must look, I am convinced the end product will be quite similar to this.

Yeah, any van would be completely different in structure.

It’d have to be much taller and thus way less aerodynamic to continue relying on a truss configuration for strength

I would take the three row SUV over the Cybertruck. I have a Model Y now and it's a bit small for my liking and the X, for my situation, isn't practical for the price. I'd like something a little more rugged, almost like an electric Defender. I love the idea of not having to worry about paint and door dings too. I've owned a pickup in the past and I can use the people space more than bed space. I doubt they make it but it's nice to dream.

Yup, I definitely take this over the truck. I don’t need the third row seat but unified enclosed interior space always proved much more useful for me than bed of a truck. For the rare occasion that I need a bed, I would tow a trailer.

Lots of people are buying the Cybertruck instead of an SUV or van. Hopefully Tesla fills that niche soon (it’s really just one niche) with a Tesla van. But it’s not going to be based very closely on the current Cybertruck.

Please, first the 2 door CT rumor then this. One thing at a time and this thing is not going to happen. The CT was meant for unique design. People just love making things up.

The triangle is definitely going to be hard to do for a larger vehicle.

But... move the front forward a bit, then replicate that in the rear. Now you're overlapping two triangles, and you get a slightly heavier structure but it can contain twice as many seats.

Haven't you guys ever built with Lego?
