What range do we really need?
If you tow on a regular basis, then you will probably want something more than the referenced 350mi range.

If you dont tow, why carry all of the extra battery weight. 350mi range makes sense.
This is exactly why the tower equipment will have its own power source soon enough. Two companies already released prototypes trailers that are self powered. Which means the CT wouldn’t lose any range

Well, I plan on using it when I pick up the truck. Gonna roll up my Zero, strap it in the back, and bring it home.

That is if I can't fly into Texas and... wait, then I'll be stuffing it with camping gear.

Same for me. Camping gear and tons of bikes.

I don’t know what world you’re living in where $10k is a low cost change.
Texas.
A $10k bump to the next highest trim in a truck model is not significant. An F150 XL to XLT is $8k. An XLT to Lariat is $16k. A Lariat to Limited is a $15k jump.
Here in pickup truck land, a $10k trim bump is not huge especially if you are buying an additional 150 miles.

If the rumor turns out to be true I predict Tesla targeted over 835 HP to one up the Quad Motor Rivian R1T.

It’s really important to notice that it doesn’t appear that their initial typical Tesla truck buyer is actually someone that needs a truck. There is a huge Tesla following driving model 3s that have plenty of financial readiness to jump on the CT because it’s the coolest most capable Tesla product. For A LOT of Tesla fans it not really about owning or needing a truck. I bet 50% of the initial buyers won’t really use the truck bed within the first year of ownership. So what’s really important in teslas eyes. That they make a fast and sexy vehicle. That’s what they have always prioritized. The first 250,000 buyers would buy it with a 250 mile range and quad motor because most of them won’t need anything else. I personally don’t think Tesla will offer that low of range on a quad motor. I think they will do a quad motor with a double stacked battery between the castings which will be about the 20% greater than the size as the Y battery x2. Or around 180 kWh. With an efficiency slightly better to Rivians and Fords at 460 W/mile. Which gives us about 400 miles of range. Tesla will offset this by announcing that the CT will accept level4 charging and the charging network has been upgraded blah blah blah so there you go. And even at that it will be $10k less than the Silverado with 450 mile range so many people will go for the CT because it still has more to offer.
I can’t wait for it! I am hoping for 450ish at some point before my number is up. In Oregon, lots of hills, snow skiing (cold weather range hits), not a great charging structure in the eastern parts of the state for hunting. But mainly it will be my daily driver, family road-tripper (with bikes, camping gear), SUV-like, with the function of having a bed for home projects

Every 2.5 hours? No thanks. Need to be able to comfortably drive 4 hours without needing to stop. By comfortable I mean no range anxiety.

100% the same for me. It will replace my ancient Dodge Grand Caravan which I use as a daily. It hauls 4 to 5 mountain bikes with camping gear (the cycling part 2-4 times a week), with camping a weekly occurence in the spring and summer months, then winter time skis and snowboards, with the occasional home improvement projects. Where I live in Southern Ontario the charging infrastructure is great within the urban areas but once you start road tripping into cottage country and beyond (3-6 hours north of Toronto), the charging becomes much more spread out, elevation increases, as well as harsher winter weather. So I need a Tesla with at least 400-450 miles of range. 500+ miles would be ideal, so patiently waiting.

Elon stated...

“Demand is so far off the hook, you can't even see the hook,” Musk said about the Cybertruck during last night’s Q2 earnings call. “So that's really not an issue. I do want to emphasize that the Cybertruck has a lot of new technology in it, like a lot. It doesn't look like any other vehicle because it is not like any other vehicle.”

Musk said the Cybertruck’s appeal, he believes, has to do with its unique dimensions. “This is the first truck that we're aware of that will have four doors, over a 6-foot bed, and will fit into a 20-foot garage. So it's the biggest on the outside, but it's even bigger on the inside,” he said. “So just trying to get right in the middle of the Goldilocks zone, not too big, not too small, and then really maximize the utility of the volume. And we can't wait to start delivering it later this year.”

Pretty sure that 450-mile range Rory Harvey touted was a fairy story. Even on Chevy's Silverado website they say GM-estimated 400-mile range. And the footnote says, "Your mileage may vary based on a variety of factors." So about 400 miles of range would be about industry leading, plus the added bonus that Tesla will actually produce these CTs in six-figure quantities in 2024. 👍🏼

Two??? Released??? 🤨
If you're talking about Lightship and Airstream, you're out over the tips of your skis a bit.

Lightship has announced a powered trailer, and built a physical prototype, but to my knowledge it doesn't actually have a powered drivetrain under it yet. The long road between a demonstrator prototype and "releasing" product to customers is often a dead end. I have a deposit on one, but I'm not holding my breath.

And the Porsche/Airstream collaboration never actually mentions a drivetrain. their promotional material insinuates that it's EV compatible only due to its lightweight and aerodynamics. I can't find anywhere on their site that says that it's powered. I too assumed it was until I started searching for specs on it.

I suppose you are correct. Lightship does have a prototype that was shown recently in Austin. Airstream has a highly developed concept that they are very likely already building. Both claim that they will be able to self propel to reduce the load on the vehicle and help the vehicle conserve mileage. That really is the main point of these trailers. If they don't self propel then you can just plug them in at the campsite and you wouldn't need the battery.

Where did you get 2.5 hours? If the range is even 350 miles, and you only go to 80% (which doesn't make sense if you know you're taking a trip in the morning) and you hit a supercharger at 20%, then you've got 210 miles of range. You'd have to AVERAGE 84mph to cover that distance in 2.5. And to get that average, you have to drive a helluva lot faster than 84 to get that average. More than likely, it's going to take you about 3.5 hours to cover the 210 miles. And if there is ANY traffic, it's more like 4 hours. That's your requirement exactly.
