First, I want to thank @3Wliners Carmats for selecting me as one of the winners in their Cybertruck mat giveaway. I appreciate the opportunity to put their full set through its paces.
Doing a little due diligence, I’ve learned that 3Wliners is a New York-based company that’s been making injection-molded liners since, I believe, 2016. They supply OEMs, and they’ve got a Red Dot Award under their belt for their and that’s no small feat!
The contest ran in early March, and the winners were announced about a week later. So, I’m a little behind and getting this out.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned the legislative session in my state is live and I’ve got a ton of work on my plate (lobbying on behalf of my clients in addition to my normal work), as a result. Me and the boys have not been getting out as much as we normally would and I barely got these things unboxed and installed in the car, TODAY! But I did that, so I’ll share what I know and I’ll update later.
44 days left in this legislative session, BTW, not that I’m counting every second! ?
TL/DR
If you know me, love it or hate it, this won’t be your first or last time seeing a long ass post from me. Sorry, not sorry. But I can summarize:
Great design! Great fitment! Great quality! Little fancy for my tastes give him that LEO is first and foremost an overlanding rig, but if you like mullets and wanna go business (carpet) sometimes and party (TPE) sometimes then these bad boys are highly recommended and beautifully executed! 5/5!
Unboxing & First Impressions
Did a video it’s not particularly informative in and of itself.
The packaging was well done. Integrated handles, compact boxes, no wasted space. One was shrink-wrapped, one wasn’t. Everything was packed tightly and efficiently. Everything looked well thought out, like somebody gave a damn.
I thought I was just getting the front row and rear mats, and assumed that it spread across two boxes. But when I opened the first box, I found both of those plus liners for the frunk and smugglers bay.
Then there was a second box I didn’t even know was coming. That one contained a full bed liner, plus another frunk and smugglers bay liner. I’m not reviewing the bed liner yet because I wasn’t expecting it and haven’t installed it, but just looking at it: it’s sharp. Has a minimalist diamond plate-like texture, seems tough, and I like the finish. I’ll review that later. Probably after the session.
Design & Material Quality
You’re basically getting the best of both worlds here. There’s a base layer which is rubber, or technically TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) and then a carpet layer that snaps into place. The TPE feels solid. It’s more flexible than the OEM mats or something like WeatherTech, but to the touch it feels better. Feels like very high quality. The material is thinner than OEM, but not in a bad way. It still feels substantial and looks like it’ll hold up. Time will tell.
Fitment
The fitment is exceptional. The OEM mats that came with the FS/CB go way under the seat, and this was the first time I pulled them myself. My detailer usually handles that. Turns out, they’re kind of a pain in the ass to get out! Who knew?
@3Wliners Carmats design ends at the risers and doesn’t go under the seat track. But it still fully protects the footwell and doesn’t make removal a hassle. I like their approach better.
Same thing with the rear mat. The precision on these is honestly unparalleled. WeatherTech built their brand on fitment, but I’ve had issues with their stuff in other vehicles like my FJ Cruiser and Corvettes, both had gaps or warping that never resolved. 3W nailed it!
Functionality
This two-part setup is clever/useful. Rubber base, carpet top. The carpet layer snaps into place using these large round snaps. Male on the base, female on the carpet. It locks in tight (requires a firm push to seat it properly). Easy to remove. Not fussy.
The carpet feels a little thicker than the Cybertruck’s actual carpet. Personally, I wish there were no carpet at all in the CT. I’d rather have a pure rubber interior like my FJ, something you can hose out. But I get the appeal. The carpet feels good, and the execution is clean. If you’re the type that wants flexibility, it works.
Quirks?
Nothing weird. No branding over-branding issues, no goofy tacky flourishes, no smells. Just clean work, start to finish. Award-winning like I said above.
Overall Take
I’d just reiterate my TL/DR. Beyond that, If I’m matching what I got to what’s on their website, the price is surprisingly low for the full set. It feels like a deal.
The quality is outstanding. And anybody who’s seen me review stuff like the Tesla air pump or the Cybertruck key card knows I don’t sugarcoat it.
I can’t speak to longevity, and the carpet layer isn’t really for me, but I can see a lot of people getting real value out of this setup. 3W’s approach makes sense, and it’s well executed.
Thanks again @3Wliners Carmats! I still owe you some pictures of the field with Wiz & Mo making a mess of these!
